Not another issue with my clutch. I had a problem with my clutch after about 2000 miles and porsche replaced it at no charge (after initially stating that they wouldn't cover it under warranty and i would have to pay $4,500!!). Now i'm at 13,000 miles and the clutch is making sounds -- clicking sounds. I dropped the car at the dealer today -- i just know they are going to say i need a new clutch!

Am i the only one experiencing clutch problems? I've driven a manual transmission for over 20 years AND never had clutch issues!

    Re: Clutch

Try to reason with the dealer and ask them to look deeper into the real cause for the clutch problem. Your clutch experience should help and eliminate operator error - you may want to demonstrate to the dealer your clutch skills too.

    Re: Clutch

Is your manual trany time in 911s? It shouldn't make a difference, of course. Good luck getting them to go along a second time.

    Re: Clutch

Well, I finally have resolution. The dealership closest to my home stated that I needed a new clutch and that it would cost approximately $3800. I was furious. I've been driving a manual transmission for 20 years so I know how to shift!!

I decided to take the car to the dealership where I bought the car -- over 2 hours away. I left the car and they called and said absolutely nothing was wrong. While I should have been happy I was extremely perplexed. One dealership says I need a new clutch and wants $3800 and another says nothing is wrong.....but i know that there is a loud clicking sound when i push the pedal down while shifting. I insisted that they check again and they insisted that the clutch was ok.

So I drove back to the dealership the following weekend and the service manager met me there (note the service dept is closed on Saturdays -- I was definitely impressed). I warmed the car up and then took the technician for a drive. For the first 5 minutes there was absolutely no clicking sound when clutching. i was beginning to think I was crazy......then the clicking started. He was shocked! He said he drove the car for an hour and he didn't hear that sound. We actually went to a parking lot and I mimiced the stop and start traffic that i usually encounter in Manhattan....the stopping and starting at short paces seemed to initiate the clicking sound.

The final verdict is that the master cylinder was defective and needed to be replaced --- FULLY COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. He said there was absolutely nothing I could have done to wear out the master cylinder. What a relief!

I pick up the car tomorrow. I'm hoping that the issue is fully resolved because I miss my little 997 although the cayenne loaner has been a blast

    Re: Clutch

I had the same prpblem a year ago when i had 27000 km on the odo and they replaced clutch and master cylinder with no charge (full warranty).
On the other hand tell them to lubricate the clutch(I think there was a thread on that clutch lubrication issue long time ago on rennteam, check it) before you take the car from the dealer. When I took the car with the new clutch a strange sound was coming from the clutch during gear shifts and I had to take it back and leave it there for a day in order to lubricate the clutch with a "porsche special clutch lubricant". From that time no problem(41000km).
    Keep us informed.

    Re: Clutch

Happy to hear you finally got this sorted. For the record, I never thought you were the source of your clutch problems . . .
