iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

    Hello all,

After many months of stalling, the iPod adapter is finally available for purchase. The pricing is as follows (inclusive of parts, and labor, excluding tax):

    For 987 and 997 vehicles $1,500
For Cayenne (2005 and later only) $1,650

This is for PCM enabled-cars only so some 987 owners are out of luck on this one until the next unit comes out that will serve as a hardwire between CDR24 and iPod.

This is NOT the Dension unit. I am currently waiting to hear more technical details from my service dept at my dealership to post on here. I just wanted to get this initial news out.

Additionally, I can organize a group buy/trip to the dealership for all those that are interested (and those in the NYC Metro Area). We are looking at a minimum of a $100 dollar discount per person off the total cost/installation of this device.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

AJ: Any clues on the difference between the unit you are referencing and the Dension one? I put myself on the "signup" list for the "other" iPod integration unit that 'Eric (Plug Guy)' on this forum had posted about. I believe the retail on that one was around $600 and a group buy was being negotiated.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

    which dealer?

No insight on the differences yet. All I know is that it is not the Dension unit.

I think it might be a Belkin interface. When I picked up my C4S Cab in July at Stuttgart, the Porsche guy that explained to me the features in my car told me a Belkin integration would come in November. I sure hope he was right but knowing Porsche I will believe it once it is up and running in my car.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

1500? wtf? For that much, you could tear out the entire stereo and install a superior aftermarket system with ipod interface...

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

    AJ,

Would you happen to know if Manhattan Motorcars has an open allocation for a C4S?

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

C4S are plentiful lately - they have inventory and can order one immediately.

Check out the local dealers, new country greenwich, or prestige in new jersey to hunt for the best deal on either an off-the-lot or a special order.

I do not know off the top of my head, but I'll try and check with them tomorow and get back to you or PM you.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

Hey AJ, I'll probably be in on this one. Would be nice if they included Sirius kit too

I dropped off my car this morning to have the nav unit installed (the parts finally arrived from Germany). I asked about satellite radio and how I've heard of people having the Cayenne kit installed in their 997. My service writer told me that he heard from PCNA that there are differences in the radios (specifically voltage differences) between the Cayenne and the 997 and that using the Cayenne kit in a 997 will cause radio problems. I think he may be passing misinformation however I thought I would post it here.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

I think it would cause problems mainly because well...where the hell do you put the satellite antenna? You know, the ugly wart thats on top of the BMW's and Cayenne's...I'm not sure the antenna in the 987/997 is strong enough to get satellite information without a dedicated antenna.

I've seen the pictures online where they are mounting the antenna in the same location that the navigation antenna (and nav unit) is located, which is in the "trunk". I would imagine that it drops out more then a unit not obstructed by a few layers of sheet metal.

What my service writer was saying was that it was a voltage problem and it will fry your radio. I believe that is false. Isn't the connection between the units just a fiber optic link?

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

do you get a free ipod 5g for this price? they've got to be kidding. this is more than the CD changer and just provides the connectivity. as much as I'd like to integrate my ipod into the car, no way at this price. I was balking at even 1/2 the price for what it does...

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

Porsche assumes that since we are already over paying for the car, we won't mind paying a premium for a lousy IPOD connection. But it is the way it is, I mean we had to be the first buyers. If we wanted Ipod connections that badly, we'd pay or wait.

The antenna replaces the GPS antenna under the front cowl cover over the wipers, and is a combined radio/GPS/satellite antenna. You cannot see it at all. Works perfectly. There is a very long rennlist thread on this topic.

Re: iPod OEM Adapter Group Buy (NYC Area and Beyond)

Can I see? Who is it from? When will this be available in SF?

Also, may want to try Danbury Porsche. Mike K. in sales is a good place to start.
