Re: Am I the only one who thinks

I had a 993C and IMO it was Porsche's best design incl. the dashboard .I bought a 997 S when it came out in 2004 as an interims solution until the tt will be available. I am really disappointed the way the tt looks. Esp. the front part with the foglights. The tt is certainly a superperforming car but when I invest that amount of money everything of the car must meet my expectations. Therefore I will most probably stay with my 997S. Unfortunately it can not be retrofitted with the X51.

I love simple carrera, but also can't live with out the GT3. it has its own style . I would buy a 997 3.6 don't care bout engine just it's special style and for daily use . but ill have to get the GT3.
by the way, 912 has to be in my garage too.

Uh, this kind of roof spoiler looks even worse than the new GT3-one. Nah, just kidding.

Re: Am I the only one who thinks

I wouldn't mess with the rear wing on a GT3 -or any other Porsche. Bad idea. If you remove the rear wing the aerodynamic balance is upset at high speed because you get a disproportionate amount of lift compared to downforce at the front. The standard set-up for Porsche is increasing understeer as speed and aero forces increase. This is a safety feature. Take off the wing and the car will become less planted at the rear and if you need to lift off the gas at high speed it may become seriously unstable. (especially in slippery conditions. (Think early Audi TT-no spoiler Autobahn crashes )). Unlike some other cars, Porsche fits these things for function first. Paul Frere's excellent book documenting the history of the 911 discusses the issue faced by the engineers and the solutions. I expect that the centre of pressure would also change because compared to the 997 and 997S the GT3 has more downforce on the front axle. This could aslo affect straight line stability. You may also recall on the normal 997's there is warning light if the rear spoiler does not raise at speed-that's there for a reason!

    LOL!

    Dilinger,
Actually, it's Arctic Silver ( also Adaptive Sport Seats).

    Re: No you're not

Porsche is selling performance not style. That is why their changes are "evolutionary" and not substantive. The 997 TT looks the way it does because Porsche is stuck with the basic style and in order to differentiate it from the rest of the look alike 997's, took a Rube Goldberg approach. Add a little here and there and hope the add-on's work.

Sadly, it is an abomination. Thankfully it will go like hell and no one will have to look at it too long and thereby avoid vomiting.

I definitely agree with you on this one. Why does a Turbo, or GT3, or 997/S have to be different and recognizeable from a mile away? Same thing with the calipers and the tailpipes.

They're all the SAME car, right? They have some major differences under the skin, BUT why should these FUNCTIONAL AND HIDDEN differences change the look of the car? I don't get it. Do the majority of buyers WANT to play this in-your-face game of one-upsmanship? I certainly don't (stupid TT wing and tailpipe apertures disappoint my intentions to trade up).
