Extended Warranty
Possibly more of a UK question than elsewhere – but was wondering if anyone cares to share their views on taking up the extended warranty for C2 991 beyond the official 3 years? I’ve covered less than 5,000 miles since taking delivery in November 2015 and have been sent a reminder that the OPC warranty expires next month. They offer a one or two year plan which can only be taken out after a 111 point check (for which they presumably charge) at approximately £1000/pa.
The car will need its first MOT (annual safety check mandated for all cars over three years in the UK) but obviously doesn’t need a service for a further year. I’ve not had any issues with this particular 991 (the first one was a different story) so given the mileage I do and reliability seen so far and that I intend to keep it for further 5+ years, I’m thinking……
- Pay for MOT & 111 point check to see if anything is needed before current warranty ends and then either extend for 1 year (so that the next renewal falls due when service is needed)
- Pay for MOT & 111 point check as above but extend for 2 years (marginally cheaper than paying for two lots of 1 year and presumably saves a 2nd 111 point check)
- Pay for MOT & ignore the check and warranty in expectation that the MOT might highlight something needed which is still covered by existing warranty
- Take it out of OPC network completely & look at 3rd party warranty
- Take it out of OPC & ignore warranty completely tucking away funds for just-in-case scenarios
Thoughts welcomed…
