US to EU rear license plates

I have a new Targa that I just brought over from the US to Europe and I'd like to remove those spacers in the back license plate area so I can fit my EU tags on it.  Any suggestions how to do this before i rip the back bumper apart?

That will leave holes in the rear bumper skirt where the US-bumperettes are fitted to the car's body, so the ideal solution is to buy a complete rear bumper panel to replace the original after you have removed the bumperettes.

You can probably get a different size and shape plate, at least here you can. They're pretty ugly, thoguh.

If you don't mind me asking, what shipping company did you use and were you pleased with their service?

He's looking for a way to eliminate the bumperettes to make room for longer European license plates, not to replace one bumperette with another. Smiley

If you are talking about bumper-plugs to cover the holes in a bumper after removing 'bumperetes' on US spec car - they are small and can fit in envelope and shipped by UPS  or any currier service .

Or , maybe coco4s , schould follow your advise and replace the whole rear bumper   Smiley

Sorry, I meant to ask who you used to ship your Targa from the US to Europe...and how did you like their service?  I might have to bring my Targa back to the US and am looking for a reputable shipper.  Grazie!

If you check out BumperPlugs' website, you'll see that the company also offers bumperettes in body color to replace the black OEM parts. But they would also not be a solution for the problem being discussed here.

Re: US to EU rear license plates

There were two companies who were involved, Atlantic Caro Logistics in the States and Cross Trans in Bremerhaven, Germany.  I've shipped quite a few cars across the Atlantic with both of these companies and I've been pretty satisfied overall - very happy with Atlantic Cargo (excellent service) and pretty happy with Cross Trans (one billing dispute and it's difficult to get them on the phone).

But a word of advice: with nearly every car I have had some problem because of the idiots at the ports.  On the Tagra they stole the wheel caps on the US side.  On a GL they stole the remotes and the headphones from the entertainment system in Germany and the owners manual.  On a Rover they got greasy handprints all over the inside of the car, including the roof, and they did this in the GL too.  And they broke a vanity mirror on a CLS.  On both sides of the Atlantic these guys seem to have no respect for the cars, and no integrity.  So take everything out of the car that can be stolen before yous hip it, and cover the driver's seat, door, floor, etc with plastic before you send it.

Thanks for the reply!  WOW...not what I would've expected or wanted at the ports, but definitely something to prepare for early!  It's disappointing how disrespectly people can be...probablhy a sign of the times. Thanks for the food for thought!
