    value of crashed cgt

    Hey guys,

A friend of mine is interested in purchasing a carrera gt that was in an accident in the U.K. apparently the car belonged to some one from Abu Dhabi who took it there on vacation or something.

Anyhow, The guys selling it say that the mechanics are ok, no problems with the chasis,motor,trannny..etc.

enclosed are the pics, i'd be interested to know what you guys think about.

    a) what price it should be

    b) how much it would cost to fix at porsche factory in germany

    c) extent of damage

    Re: value of crashed cgt

very expensive, maybe around 100 000 eur with new parts, if I remember correctly only the wing is around 12000 eur, wheel is around 7000 eur, door is 20000 eur with VAT in Germany....
here is the link to microfiche
and here is the price of the parts

    Re: value of crashed cgt

    Hey Amir,

I would think 10 times before I bought a damaged CGT, especially when it is hit that bad.
They can say that it is mechanically allright, but the truth is that that is VERY hard to establsih with a CGT. If you take a look at the attached pictures, you'll see that the entire structural part of the car is made from carbon fibre reinforced plastics. Depending on the type of CFRP (Thermoplastic or thermoset), it is very hard to repair a CFRP part. Also, it can be very hard to determine whether a part is damaged or not. Entire structural regions can contain delaminations of the CF plies, without any noticible damage from the outside.

My guess would be that, should damage be found on one of the CFRP parts, they will replace that part. As you can see on the pictures, that could involve exchanging part of the monocoque...

So, unless you are entirely sure that the CFRP parts are not damaged, I would not buy it.

Very well said. The CGT is a highly delicate piece of engineering and with CF near impossible repairability, giving that damaged car a second life might not be very cost effective. Pretty much every part with even minor damage would have to be replaced and depending on the truama the car has suffered, you might see yourself having to repair 40% of the car and we all know how expensive spare parts are.

    Hello amir,

since most of the damaged parts will be replaced by new parts, I won't worry too much about buying such a car, as long as the work is done professionally. I saw a lot (more than 5) of crashed CGT at the factory in Stuttgart. All of them have been given a second life. But I have to confess that there were cars with less visible damage and repair costs of more than 150k Euro.

The car looks like scrap, What type of crash was it involved in? It looks like multiple impact points, so I'm guessing slide out, impact, spin out, then another impact. I also suspect the sellers intentions, a car that nice if its economical for him to fix it and ship back he would have done it, the cost of making the car cherry again seems obvious to me not cost effective for him thus putting it on the market.
