    Lightest wheels for turbo?

    hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has used these for their turbos, any comments?

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

Newer US company that appears to have good credential. They posted on 6speed Turbo forum a while back and then somehow disappeared from the forum. I vaguely recall they make wheels for military applications, and some tuners as well (search 6speed for this). I rarely see anyone in US forum with these wheels however (i.e. they remain a small player in the US Porsche market).

I would recommend that you look into the 2 big guns of US market: HRE and Champion, besides BBS of course (otherwise outstanding wheels, but look rather dated). Both HRE and Champion are very well established and have great reputation, and there are plenty of guinea pigs ahead of you who have tested the wheels.
If lightweight is the criteria, AND you don't mind the lip, then look into Champion RG5 (one of my favorites, except I don't like "lip") and the HRE competition series http://www.hrewheels.com/wheels/series.php?q=/COMP/COMP21/ .
Note that the lighter wheels are not one-piece forged like the HRE P40 on my car, AND have a lip. There is a reason for this I think: One piece forged wheel means the hub has to be big and thick (just look at the picture and you'll see what I mean).

If you have questions about wheels and weight, email  http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=Wheels . They are probably the largest Porsche wheel dealer in the US, very trust worthy and knowledgeable, and have been around forever.

Lightest wheels?  Don't think you'll get much lighter than Dymags. But they'll cost you!

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

Dymags. Look stunning, saves 5-6kgs per corner (incl the Pogipolini titanium bolts) and the weight saving is even larger effectively because the weight is all in the centre (the carbon rims weighs very little). Instant and noticeable improvement in acceleration pickup, handling (less roll and understeer!) and braking. Can feels 100kgs lighter. They also look pretty amazing in real life. Drawbacks; cost and also you have to be careful not to scratc them too much as they ll need to go back to factory. Carbon is quite resilient and the lacquer absorbs some scratching but beoyond a certain point they need refurbishment. Hence as with everything in life there is a compromise but overall probably the best mod overall I ve done on a turbo.

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

Wasn't there some issue with quality control, air leaking on the Dymag wheels?  I seem to recall a few threads about this elsewhere.

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

Yes but on old magnesium design. I know all about it , I had them. The new magnilium ones are spot on and had them for over a year now.

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

Sorry ny browser is going nuts.. Apparently they changed to a magnesium/aluminium combination that is stronger and has different properties that work a lot better with the carbon. These new wheels are actually another 500grams lighter. I had them swapped (at no cost) when my old ones were found to leak. Since then I ve driven and tracked the car at very different conditions (hot, very hot, very cold) and they have not lost a single psi. If these guys keep developing these wheels I think I am going to use them for all the sport cars I may get in the future as they made a huge difference in the turbo.

    Re: Lightest wheels for turbo?

These wheels are great. I found some guy posting that his CLK63 BS feels 100kg lighter on them! Great!
