    Carrera GT weight

    My GT is ready after its 4 year large service.

    The Michelin Supersports tyres are ON!!!! I can't wait to drive the car and give you my feedback.

    In the meantime, Porsche Reading has weighted the car full of fluids (engine oil, windscreen wash, brake fluid etc.) and with a full tank of petrol and its weight is:

    1459 kgs

    My car, like most GT out there has Becker Satnav unit and Aircon.

    Now how does that compare with Porsche's official figure of 1380 kgs? Smiley

    I'm not too sure, but I thought you'd be interested to find out.

    The Carrera GT´s acceleration and weight figures must´ve been rather on an optimistic side. Assumedly the claimed numbers of 1380 kg are for the lightweight version with the satnat and a/c delete option?

     There are actually very little data available out there for the GT in terms of acceleration figures.

    One non factory data was a Nurburging lap of 7min29 by Marc Basseng in a standard car.

    Actually I'd say 3,9 secs for 0 to 100 kmh is on the conservative side, having said that, the clutch is a pain to manage off the start so it doesn't help.

    The amazing figure though is the 0 to 200 kmh in 9.9 secs, I mean, that is still top league by today's standards.

    Regarding the weight with all fluids of 1460 kgs, that's still pretty good especially given the power of 612 hp.

    All manufacturers weight claims are ultra conservative, I'd be surprised to see a 599 GTO that weighs the official number of 1590 kgs or even a GT3 RS that weights the actual official 1370 kgs.

    If you look at the new Lambo V12 for example, official claim is 1590 kgs dry weight, with all fluids, add a comfortable 100 kgs (just the fuel should be 90 kgs so that's super conservative) plus on top of that add the "error margin" of the manufacturers, it's safe to suppose a "on the road" version will be more than 1750 kgs.

    With 700 hp, it means its power to weight ratio is actually worse than the 7 years old Carrera GT, even with the latter at 1460 kgs!!!

    Where's progress?Smiley

    Better gearboxes yes, better tyres yes, 4WD system ok, but what we want is less weight!!!

    It's astonishing how much fudging there is from weight figures.. It should be dead simple to measure accurately/independently.

    I completely agree, and manufacturers hide behind all the different definitions:

    Kerg, DIN, dry, on the road, with or without driver, fat, thin...!

    To most buyers it doesn't matter, to members of this forum, it should! Smiley

    Again, I don't mean to bore with my passion for the CGT, but we're all praising the Macca 12C performance figures

    600 hp for 1434 kgs (official claim to be verified)

    CGT: 612 hp for 1459 kgs (verified)

    0 to 200 kmh: 9.9 secs got the GT on old tyres, for the Macca 8.9 secs with Cora tyres.

    CGT: 2004, 12C: 2011!Smiley

    Again, where's progress? Ok, Macca has a clever gearbox, but some of us actually prefer a manual one for involvement.

    There are lots of posts on this subject on here somewhere I hope, I weighed my CGT and found the same as you........ more concerning to me was the 0-300kph times which were 5seconds + off the factory claims, all on here somewhere

     I didn't know there was an official 0 to 300 time for the GT, but even so, 5 secs + difference is a disappointment...Smiley

    Its in the handbook, 26 or 27s from memory - noone ever got close, I tried many times but best was around 32s which seemed to be what all the tests managed also. A pal knew people from the factory involved in the development who said the 26/27s was accurate but I can't see it and trust me I tried hard as did others Smiley

     The examples you mention indicate that the progress (in terms of power/weight ratio) seems to come from the turbo engine cars (GT2 RS, McLaren). No wonder - the turbo engines are just more efficient when it comes to combining power/torque/fuel efficiency and weight Smiley Bad times for fans of NA cars, though. I doubt that NA high-performance cars will have a great future given all those foreseeable legal requirements Smiley

     I think you are a bit too cautious as far as the McLaren is concerned... The MP4 is likely to be like 5-8s faster 0-300kph, and might also lap the NBR in like 20s (!) faster than the CGT. But let's wait for official confirmation of these inofficial numbers. Also, don't forget that the McLaren is far more comfortable, safer etc. Smiley

    I haven't pickep up the car yet.

    I know they're 345 in the back instead of 335 but they still fit the OEM rim, just!

    The www.tirerack.com web site has them listed and it looks like the fronts need to be 275 instead of 265 as well.

    I can't wait to see how you like them.

    Why 275 ? what's wrong with 265 ? isn't that the stock size for the front tires ?

     You'll notice that the Carrera GT front tire size is 265/35-19.  Your selection has a 30 sidewall profile.  If the rears are 345 instead of 335, then the fronts need to be 275 instead of 265 with both being 35 aspect ratio.

    Good try.  Prevailing thought has always been 3.8  0-60mph altho much other  "authority"  claim 3.5.  I've seen video of the CGT shutting down the 599 and the F430 and they're believed to turn 3.2,  3.3.  What's  the diff between the 3000 lb vs  3200lb ?  Heck my GT3 weighs that.  CGT runs 5 to 1 power to weight.  Only thing that beats that, doesn't have two seats and is an open wheel vehicle.  Probably unbeatable from 40mph to  140mph

    Hey CGT LA, I was trying to understand what exactly you were trying to say ?

    What does the "good try" refer to ?

    0-100kph (62,1mph) was measured independently by Sport Auto mag at 3.8s so that presumably answers your "prevailing thought" as this is measured fact ?

    The diff between 3000 and 3200lb is 1361kg and 1451kg so 90kg, are you trying to make the point that 90kg is insignificant ? 

    CGT power to weight on the road (in lbs/hp) is 5.3 to 1 but there are other turbo cars like the GT2RS at 4.99 to 1 with turbo torque curves which have a lot more power under the curve so are faster than the CGT in all increments and especially over 150mph where the CGT really suffers in acceleration due to its CdA - it doesn't sound or feel like the CGT running full revs through 5th and 6th tho' angel

    sorry to disappoint, but my buddy and I recently lined up his CGT and my 12c spider from 40 to 140mph (rolling second to 4th gear) and the CGT was about 2 car lengths behind the mac at that point. even though he is a very fast shifter, the main reason for that result was the lightning fast gear change of the mac's double clutch. The porsche lost almost a car length with each gear change.
