    Changing Headers?

I am looking to change the exhaust on my 2008 997 Turbo Tip and do an ECU upgrade. I am told that changing the headers is crucial. TechArt seems to be doing the same thing; their simplest upgrade includes ECU and headers. I would take the Milltek exhaust and buy Supersprint headers as Milltek doesn't do headers for the 997 Turbo. What do you think?

    Re: Changing Headers?

I have always heard that the OEM headers are pretty good and most aftermarket tuners struggle to devise better flow to yield more power.  Of course as you go up the poowerkit ladder (beyond 600bhp) I believe small optimizations become more relevant.

My powerkit doesn't come with headers and I have about 100bhp more power throughout most of the rev range compared to a stock car.

    Re: Changing Headers?

    hi Alex,

what kind of mod do u have giving u 100bhp? just exhaust and ecu? what ur saying is headers isnt that really necessary if ur car has under 600bhp.

    cheers.

Careful: Header is among THE most mis-used and mis-recommended mods on the market. It doesn't automatically bring power benefit, and when it does, that comes with a price. With power gain, there might be/could be/should be power loss elsewhere in the power band. People would even argue adding a header require a specific custom tune.

Great care must be used when selecting the length and diameter of the primary tubes. Tubes that are too large will cause the exhaust gas to expand and slow down, decreasing the scavenging effect. Tubes that are too small will create backpressure against which the engine must work to expel the exhaust gas from the chamber, reducing power and leaving exhaust in the chamber to dilute the incoming intake charge. Since engines produce more exhaust gas at higher speeds, the header(s) are tuned to a particular engine speed range according to the intended application. Typically, wide primary tubes offer the best gains in power and torque at higher engine speeds, while narrow tubes offer the best gains at lower speeds.

    Re: Changing Headers?

I would stay away from aftermarket headers..
