I picked up my 2005 in October 2004. I had PSE retrofitted six months later. I think RC picked up his 2005 as soon as it came out, so he had one of the earliest ones. I think he too had PSE retrofitted. And I've never heard that there was a cut-off (or cut-on) date for PSE retrofit. So, no, to my knowledge, such a thing does not exist.

I have a 997s from July 2004 which is one of the first ones produced. I retrofitted PSE when it was available approx half a year later without a problem. I think you mix it up with the possibility to retrofit POWERKIT (X51) that includes the PSE. The X51 is not possible to retrofit on 05 997 models by some reason. Might just be because Porsche has not tested the X51 on 05-models and have just certified it for 06+

Might also be confused regarding Sport Chrono and non-Sport Chrono equipped cars. The Sport Mode button (only on Sport Chrono Cars) engages the 'loud' mode. If you don't have that button then Porsche sells a button w/ exhaust tips icon that engages 'loud' mode. Both of these require interface w/ the DME. Most of us tend to put in a seperate (sometimes hidden) switch that provides +12v to the PSE vacuum solenoid. This allows independent PSE on/off modes.
