    F40 and 599 GTB commercial

    Found this on supercars.net... supposedly, they're making a commercial with the F40 and the 599 GTB in Las Vegas...

    What strikes me is the size of the 599 compared to the F40. Can'r wait for the video!

    As always, the 599 is absolutely stunning...

    I love the 599, it's a very nice car, but if I had to choose between these two, .............. I would take the F40 !!

    Yup, it's a shame how big the cars have become. The 599 is 10cm longer than the 575. Everyone who has ever driven a 575 knows, that this wasn't a very small car already...

    I'm not too sure about that. The F40 was a FAR lighter car (around 2,500 lbs I think) and had quite alot of torque to go with the 478hp. I think the F40 could be the faster car on some tracks...

    On a short track maybe. But on anything the 599 can really stretch its legs...forget about it. The F40 is giving up nearly 150hp.

    The car does 0-100kph in 3.7, this should give it a 1/4 mile time of 11.3-11.5 sec. Now, that would leave the F40 in the dust.

    The F40 was no doubt a spectacular car for its time and after nearly 20 years it still is, but, next to the 599, it looks some what like a kit car.

    The F40 was a 11.8 quarter mile car, but it has terrible traction. The GTB probably has better early acceleration, but I'm betting from anywhere above 160kph the F40 is quicker.

    I mean the weight difference is big enough, but 478 is apparently a rather conservative figure. The 599 has modern engineering on its side, but with equal rubber my money is on the F40.

    Check on the M5board. The F40 couldn't shake an 4000lbs M5 off its behind. With another 100hp: what do think the 599 could do?

    To me the Ferrari F40 is the ultimate and most beautiful Ferrari, when it was released on the market it was the fastest in acceleration and top speed. Demand for this car was so high that people were paying up to FIVE times its retail price. It's a pure, raw sports car for the road. 478hp with 580nm of torque from a 2.9 liter tt v8 for 1987 is very impressive to say the least. I hope that Ferrari in the future make another lightweight turbocharged supercar. Using today's technology with tyres, suspension, chassis, engine, computers ect. ect. ect. They could build something very special.

    I state this based on the fact that there are stretches there where the F40 can nearly match the Enzo and Mclaren F1(above 100mph). I know weight loses some of its importance, but I'm not betting on the 599s awesome aero efficiency either.

    The F40 isn't matching anything with stock brakes.

    Despite the brakes it's still a very fast track car, and when I said match I only meant in a straightline above 100mph.

    Here's a little snippet:

    Mike Olivella, who photographed the cars, commented: "At the staging area, they spent the entire time polishing and wiping down both cars. The F40 could blow the 599 away, but the F40 driver was careful to make it look like the 599 was every bit as powerful."

    I actually like the looks of the 599 and know it will impress in terms of performance, but I still think the F40 has it beat in most areas.

    The F40 is a well balanced and very agile car with almost zero road comforts that has whippet like reflexes.

    The 599 is a heavyweight GT road car with huge reserves of power, luxury and loads of technology assistance to help it overcome its weight, speed, handling and the resulting physics of its abilities.

    Wich is actually more fun? The F40.

    Wich is better to drive on a fast Continental journey?
    The 599.

    Its that Simple.

    Anyone who thinks the F40 can beat the 599 above 100 MPH isn't sane lol. Way to many variables.

    The F40 would get wasted by an Enzo....I mean a CS beats it around Fiorano. A STOCK F40 would not take a 599 above 100 mph going but the stats I have seen so far....

    Hehe, I don't mean around a track, just a short portion of acceleration between 100 and 160mph. It could be gearing I don't really know.

    I checked several of the tests from the link I provided and they all say the same thing for the F40(around 12 seconds for 160kph to 260kph). I think only one of the Enzo tests was comprehensive enough to actually compare the stat. Apparently in an early AMS test the F40 hit 300kph in just over 30 seconds. Not even close to the Enzo, but comparable to the SLR, and considering it's traction problems it says a lot about midrange acceleration.

    It's possible all the tests involved turning the magic boost knob, but I believe 3 of the tests confirm the F40s acceleration abilities.

    I'm just saying that if 620bhp isn't enough for the SLR to walk away from the F40, I don't see how the 599GTB is going to be massively different. You could make the exact same arguments for the SLR that you can for the GTB, especially considering the torque advantage that the SLR has over the GTB, but somehow the F40 keeps up and actually out accelerates the SLR in some cases.

    Yes, the gearbox is rather quick on the GTB, but were are talking milliseconds here. I doubt we will ever have the perfect drag race we are looking for, but I think you are going to surprised when we match up the tests that eventually roll out.
