    The car will drive like brand-new, replacing the engine has NOTHING to do with anything that you will feel or detect behind the wheel. If you had a bad collision, that's where you start wondering if "it'll ever drive the same". Get an appropriate loaner, and have faith in your service department. It's not a good situation, but it's one that you can only make the best of. Sometimes sh** happens. If you kneejerk your reaction, you'll jump into a different vehicle and instantly realize that it's not half the car or the enjoyment that your 911 was. So gut it out for now is my advice.

    mrcohanian, if you believe what they say, I have a Porsche to sell you with low miles, and a new engine.

    yeah, and he'll get to go through another 2k break in miles where he doesn't have all the car he paid for during that period since he is prohibited from driving it above 4200. i think the guy is being unreasonable asking for another car and a new engine is just fine and won't affect resale in the least. in fact, as more and more people come to realize what a hunk of junk the M96 and M97 are, maybe it will actually help resale if the buyer knows one has already been replaced :-) that said, there should be some compensation when guys are down 20+ days like one poster here and then required to drive less than half their cars for 2k miles until they are broken in again (i put 16k miles on my 996 in 4 years so a new engine would have screwed me out of 1/2 of the car for 6 months). given the massive depreciation in these cars, that 20 days and the 1/2 use until the 2k is met is meaningful in terms of pro-rata share of that depreciation.
