    Forget the ZR 1

New C8 will offer two engines at launch. 4.2 dohc tt with 650hp and a 5.2  dohc tt with 850hp.

I saw that - too bad they don't have an NA DOHC screamer in the mix...

Only used 3,4,5  gear.  Interesting.  Seems like 2nd would have been used but the gears are very short.  Not like the hobbled Cayman .

    Car is fast  and cheap

    Re: Corvette C7

Lots of talk about missed allocations for $200K GT3 RS car... this probably much quicker and cheaper.

    Re: Corvette C7

Sadly, the 2109 ZR1 bombed at the Ring. For all its performance enhancement it barely did 7.12 seconds. The .2GT3 had a similar time with 250hp less. GM engineers who worked on this car should be fired.

I bet that it will destroy the .2GT3 when it comes to magazine tests.

I believe I read somewhere that the conditions were a bit worse when it ran. Sport Auto did 7:14 when it ran the Z06, so I highly doubt the ZR1 in a factory driver's hand is only going to improve by 2s over a magazine. The tires alone would give it more than that.

I would have difficulties making a fast lap with that car but only because the paper bag over my head would get in the way, I would be embarrassed to be seen driving such a hideous vette version...

Not sure but maybe GM builds what customers want? I am pretty sure they could build something more classy looking but would customers actually buy it? Look at the GT RS models from Porsche, they became more extreme (design-wise) as well.

I was going to make this point to Carlos, decided not to, and you made it for me....!  I assume Carlos does not see the Porsche GT winged specials as hideous because he drives the basis for such cars so automatically sees them as more normal, despite acres of black plastic, spats, huge wings, etc.

Actually this is quite interesting how Porsche has somehow normalized ownership of these "more extreme" GT versions, to customers who (perhaps 10 years ago?) never saw themselves in such extreme machines.  If I recall correctly, RT members such as Peter M were sceptical about owning the big-wing versions, but came to love them and (then?) saw them more as normal sports cars.

    Re: Corvette C7

Actually, as much as I like the 911 RS versions, I would have some hesitation driving one in normal use in the street but not for the same reason as the ZR1, because in tje RS the wing and such is a bit too flashy or draws a bit too much attention for my confort, in the case of the ZR1 though it's because of how vulgar and boyracer they are executed. It's like a factory aerokit vs a Russian tuner job, both have wings and addons but totally different. That said, there is also a culture thing, in europe cars like t have ZR1 are seen diffrent than in NA were such cars are more common.

It's true though that cars are getting more and more extreme designwise, a design like the RS would of been unherad of 15 years ago. It's becoming a common thing now.

    Re: Corvette C7

A:though the wing and design of the RS doesn’t really bother me, I just could not drive an RS on a regular basis. The image it projects just does not match with where I am in my life now and it would gather way too much attention of the wrong kind. A Ferrari is just simply on a very different level and is much more elegant, road Ferraris are gentlemen cars.

    Re: Corvette C7

One day Porsche will spend the money to integrate a wing in a tasteful manner.

I'm one of those customers. Years ago I made fun of the big wing and wouldn't be caught dead in with the GT3, GT3RS or GT2. However, if you're a Porsche enthusiast, IMO those are the only car worth driving. Part of their attraction is the wing because it differentiate the GT cars from the run of the mill 911's. Does it give me pause to driving around in a RS (this October)? A little but when you consider performance/value, it's not difficult to overlook the enormous wing.Smiley

    Re: Corvette C7

Yes, thank you Nick, I was likely thinking of you as well.

Back to the C7, I doubt many in the US will react as viscerally as Carlos to the looks, because on this side of the pond Vettes are owned by retired Deloitte accountants and high school teachers... nowhere near the negative owner reputation the car seems to have obtained in the EU.

    Re: Corvette C7

It's true, we are pretty biased over here regarding the vette due to its image here, don't know why though, other US sportscars don't suffer from that as much

There was a time the Turbo Whaletail in the 80's was seen as enormous and gauche. Now it's the winglet of the actual wing...

The Windy City Corvette club has some of the wealthier members of any Chicago-based car club.  Most of their cars are trailer queens, so the wing is less obvious when locked in that trailer.  That club’s first event this year had a problem with snow...
