Not everyone is a car nut and likes the sound of engine 'noise'. Per RC, more than likely he is keeping the car at least 3k-4k rpm maybe in 2nd gear, those bystanders probably think RC was just 'showing off' his exhaust.

Yes, I always thought of this. I actually enjoy the sound of the M3 a lot, it is the best sounding car in the family for a very long time but not really the right car for inner city driving from various points of view.

Funny: next week my wife is getting the new engine software update which increases exhaust sound. Smiley This update has been available for some time, it was a request from M3 customers who made complaints that BMW tuned down the exhaust sound, especially the "double clutch" sound when downshifting with the first DCT related bugfix. I didn't have time to get this new software update but next week... Smiley

Only when I drive through my neighborhood, I keep the engine rpm very low, so nobody feels provoked. Outside my neighborhood...well... Smiley

Some minor bugfixes too and a minor auto mode improvement. This update improves the double clutch sound when downshifting. It was almost completely removed by the first DCT bugfix (car stalled, engine stopped), only when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd it was still very present. The new update makes the M3 sound like it sounded before the DCT bugfix update.

Base on all the marketing figures, laptime, design and price. I am sure the M5 will sell very well. I hope they can come up with a quantifiable figure for throttle responsiveness. A figure which to me as important as 0-100. BMW still needs to feed that 1% of the market demand.

William, the throttle response on the X6 M testcar I drove was amazing for a turbo charged enigne. Not perfect but I'm pretty sure that further improvements can be reached through proper programming. BMW won't let M5 customers down, I'm pretty sure about it.

Forgot to mention: there is no new transmission for the X5/X6 M, both M models keep the current 6-speed transmission. Engine, drivetrain, etc. stay the same too. Only some new options.

There's no way BMW would price it at that level in the UK market. I suspect BMW will sell it for much less in the UK making the UK a very attractive place to buy a M5 for people from the Eurozone.

The price tag of the "old" M5 was 94700 EUR in Germany.

I heard the UK price will be in the 75000-80000 GBP range.

Okay, I thought around 70,000 GBP..

Price/Performance wise the RS5 (at 57,500GBP, correct?) is an absolute bargain then...Having said that we had a discussion a year or so back stating that the RS5 was in M3 category so that pricing would be correct...

However, M5 still my choice....

You can't compare the RS5 to the M5, one is a Coupe, the other one is a sedan.

I also know for a fact that the M5 is going to beat the RS5 performance-wise. Rumored 0-200 kph performance figure for the new M5 is something around 13 seconds. Even the Panamera Turbo can't keep up.
