What wonderful books Watt! Are these difficult to read?
When I was in my teens, I read some of the original Dutch translations of Conan Doyle's Holmes stories (around 1910). The language was a bit archaic, but still understandable. Reading books from the 1700s might be quite tough!
On a sidenote, wishing you all the best with the operations mate! May you recover swiftly and be able to go out into the wonderful wilderness again soon!

Thanks to all for the good wishes! Not difficult to read - just as your brain clicks after a while when you move from, say, USA to Eire it take a while to comprehend the English spoken - same with getting the rhythm of older written English.
And body wise: We're just moving along the bionic spectrum, removing odd bits and adding more Titanium, my favourite metal!!
