996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting... has just sighted a 996 Turbo Cabriolet next to a Cafe in Heidelberg/Germany this saturday evening.

If the various 996 Turbo Cab sightings at the factory weren't proof enough, this is clearly a proof that the 996 Turbo Cabriolet is ready to roll soon.
Unfortunately we didn't have a digital camera with us to take pictures.

With a little bit of luck, we'll be able to deliver some 996 Turbo Cab pictures next week.

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

I must've seen about 50 overall 996tt Cabrios fully completed at the factory two weeks ago. They are definitely coming in at full force. It's pretty strange they've made so many of them thus far, given they haven't even announced the car officially, so customer specs haven't been given out.

Doesn't seem to be a test car because Heidelberg is kind of far from Zuffenhausen isn't it?
It must be a out factory production one.

Not so far. 114 km or 71 mls. With a Porsche 996 Turbo Cab and no speed limit: around 30 minutes. Max.

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

Must have the pictures now, RC!! Arrgghhh!!! I can not wait any longer! LOL!!

This is torture. We have numorous leads to actual production car photos but none have been posted. Come on guys! This (in my opinion) is one of the most anticipated Porsches to come in a long time. And probably one of the worst kept Porsche secrets of all time, too.

I imagine Ben FR that all those TT Cabs you see have been specifically built for customers. The Atlanta Porsche dealership has quite a few orders stacked up all speced out. I am sure that situation is the same through out the US. Especially Champion in Pompano Beach. The US's largest Porsche dealer.

Wow. RC, I can not wait!

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

So whats the main appeal of the turbo conv? How will the chassis/weight compare?

Ive always thought the boxster looked better as a conv. than the 911. But the 911s look better with a spoiler I think...

But It would be a cool cruising car, have a nice sound

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

What is the main appeal you say!?!?

Big Turbo power and handling in a convertible package! Absolute can have your supercar and GT in the same ride. That is what the appeal is!! Yes, it will weigh probably 3500-3600 lbs...but so what. There will be nothing on the road that can beat it for the COMBINATION of speed, handling, power, and comfort. With the X50 kit it will have 450 HP. The SL55 AMG has 500 HP yes, but it also has about 400-500 more lbs than the Turbo will. The SL55 may be faster in a straight line at much higher speeds but the Turbo will leave it when the rode turns twisty. The Turbo will have all wheel drive too. But the key here is that the Turbo Cab will have road "feel" which is something the Merc (or most other cars competing with Porsche) can not match. Why have I not mentioned the 360 Spyder you may ask...compared to the Turbo Cab the 360 Spyder is not as usable for an "everyday" car. Plus, the Turbo Cab could probably show it a thing or two in terms of performance. So finally the Turbo has been ousted from its super car crown of the world only to be bettered by its Cab brother.

Really it will basically be down to which car you think looks the best though. I for one will really like the Turbo Cab styling especially with the Turbo aerokit. But seriously, I think dynamically Porsche has everyone beat again with the 996 Turbo Cab.

That is my two cents.

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

Makes sense.

The one thing that's cool about convertibles is feeling "connected" with the whole driving experience. Instead of feeling like you are part of the car, you also get the full aural experience, visual, and whatnot. The turbo does have the GT/everyday appeal, but sometimes 4 seater convertibles arent the best looking in the world. But I will say that even though I complain about the shape, it always looks good when I see a carrera in person. I call it the turtle car, because of the "shell" hump back on it! but hey, being able to hear 450hp with supreme clairity? Im not complaining...

Now if I was only like others on this board and had the money for one...

Re: 996 Turbo Cabriolet Sighting...

The sighted 996 Turbo Cab in Heidelberg hat red license plates (in Germany red license plates are dealer/testdrive plates) from Stuttgart and with 5 digits. Rear license plate was US sized license plate.
The color of the car was seal grey, the color of the front hood was meridian and it had the lettering "Erprobungsfahrzeug" (which means "test car") on the front hood too.
