    OPtion List UK 991 4s

A very common thread I am sure limited always by cost but for all porsche 991 drivers which option would you go for in the new 991 , I am going to get a 4s black midnight blue special order paint and dark grey interior . Its not on the list the colour

I like comfort over racing skills and I will not go for a sport exhaust as there is plenty noise as there is . Plus living in UK has its positives and negatives as they say and spending too much on unnecessary options eg porsche crest !? etc but then again I am not sure about all the technical gizmos and their advantages or for that matter do they actually work well

So the lucky you have experienced the joys of 991 ownership and her flaws may I ask your opinions if you do not mind

Re: OPtion List UK 991 4s

Sadly I'm not a 991 owner, but from experience of 997, Boxster and Cayman, I would go for the 14 way electrically adjustable seats which come with lumbar adjustment and seat squab tilt, heated seats and in the event we ever get a hot summer the ventilated seat option is great. From a safety point of view Tyre Pressure Monitoring is a must, and a much discussed option here. You cannot tell by looking or even feeling the tyres if one is low, TPMS alerts instantly if a tyre drops as little as 2 psi.

Re: OPtion List UK 991 4s

The 14 way seats add significant weight to the car, around 14kgs extra each. So if you are weight conscious about your sportscar, have it in mind. The standard seats have electric height adjustment too on the 991 (997 was manual) as well as the previously standard electrically adjustable back.

Heated seats are a must when chilly (even in sunny Cyprus where I live) and the seat ventilation would be a very good comfort addition for the (few?) sticky summer days in the UK. To order seat ventilation you need to order the heated seats too.

Get the PDK transmission and the Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) without doubt.

And since you are comfort oriented consider the Power Steering Plus which further aids parking and on-the-spot maneuvers (the Carrera 4 models have somewhat heavier steering), and the Parking Assistance (front and rear).

Enjoy the ordering procedure, the wait and finally the delivery wink

We had these in our Boxster S and they are superbly comfortable. SWMBO really misses the seat squab angle adjustment as she finds the standard seat too high at the front edge for her short legs....Smiley Anyone with back issues will appreciate the lumbar support adjustment.

Don't forget the ventilated seat fan motors must add weight as well. Not that 14kgs would make any noticeable difference in either performance, handling or economy.

    It's 14kg PER seat...

There is no try. Just do.

OK, 28kg, I'd still have them for the much greater range of adjustments. Presumably the adaptive sports seats plus electrical 18 ways are even heavier as they have inflatable side bolsters. Want light seats? Go for the sport buckets but I'm fairly sure I wouldn't get SWMBO near them.....Smiley And they are definitely not comfort orientated.

Takes all sorts becasue I find them really comfy (once in).  But the new 991 sports seats gave me terrible back ache.  I've been fine with all 996/997 seats  Smiley

My imagination doesn't stretch to how I would be made to suffer if I made  SWMBO get in and out of those bucket seats....Smiley

Re: OPtion List UK 991 4s

I'm not yet a 991 owner, but will hopefully have my 991 Carrera before Christmas.

I avoided the sport seats as I found the "wings" encroached on my shoulders and gave me backache. (or at least that's what happened when testing 997 with sport seats) I did go for heated but avoided cooled seats. Had these on BMW and never used them (they also cause lower back ache!) so cost avoided. I went for SportChrono although not initially - I didn't buy the car to sell it however I am mindful of residuals and I "think" I'll see some benefit with dynamic engine mounts. (and quite like the clock in 991) It's different to the 997 in terms of it's necessity IMO. Also went for parking sensors front & rear. Whilst the 991 is a smallish car I often use a car park which is fairly tight so have found it useful on 997. I’ve caught myself reversing into spaces because I have parking sensors! PDK is a must - the core reason for me upgrading. Colour - all subjective however the Platinum Silver isn't as nice as Arctic Silver with silver wheels - (and I'm not a fan of painted wheels) so stuck with the classic black\black combo as I simply love it! Basalt seems to age better than the solid black and I’ve found most Porsche solid colours seem to oxidise slightly over time. (especially guards red)

Bose - it's much improved from the 997 but I would have foregone this had pricing been the biggest issue. Mobile phone prep - a no-brainer in the UK and 3rd year warranty was a deal sweetener. I also went for TPMS after taking on-board comments from fellow posters on the Porsche implementation (again, found it useless in BMW) and hopefully I’ll be impressed.

I perhaps didn't saviour the ordering process as I did when I last spec'd a 911 as I'm much less frivolous this time round and although I wasn’t forced into the purchase, I hadn’t actually intended to buy on the day I test drove it! My 997 is very well spec'd but thankfully the options were paid for by the original purchaser.

I was looking at used 991 for a while before taking the plunge but I was surprised at the incentive offered to buy new. The car I’ve ordered is similarly priced to the 996 C4S I purchased new back in 2003. It has much more kit and is faster and much much much more comfortable and yet also more sporting. Wonder what the price of 991 would be if it kept in line with inflation?

Re: OPtion List UK 991 4s

Small point but modern water based paints require a base colour coat and clear laquer top coat (even for solid colours) so oxidised paint is a thing of the past on colours like Guards Red.

Re: OPtion List UK 991 4s

Fair enough - last time I had solid colour car was in 2001 - Boxster in guards red. After 18 months or so it had a definite pinky hue on most panels.
