    19" vs. 20" Wheels on 997TT

I'm a newbie here on Rennteam and am looking for some advice.  I have an '08 GT silver 997TT with Bilstien coilovers, sways, Tubi exhaust, EVOMS ECU and GT3RS wheels. I've been looking for a wheel upgrade and am zeroing in on the Champion RS171's in 19" or the Neez QD7's in 20".

I like the Neez wheels, but am worried about ride and handling issues going from 19's to 20's.

Does anyone have experience going to 20's on their 997TT? Is it a good move?

    Re: 19" vs. 20" Wheels on 997TT

20'' might make the ride just a bit too hard. on performance cars i'd always stay with recommended setups as the cars are dialled in that way.

unless of course one has extensive chassis and geometry understanding.

The Neez ones look fantastic. i would say that if you dont use your car for much high performance driving then its more of a comfort issue, depends on how much you are willing to compromise ride comfort.

    1. Neez QD7: Very high quality and one of my most favorite wheels. However, the wheel is not TPMS compatible and I think someone had a problem with TPMS warning light with this wheel. I don't know whether this could be resolved.
Second, don't remember anymore but at least in the US the wheel is very expensive for what it is (one pieced forged). $8000 plus or something like that?
When I was looking for wheels, this is one of my top choices. And then HRE P40 came out.

    2. Champion: Don't know about the RS171, but some Champion wheels are size19x11.5 in the rear. This is NOT the same as stock, which is 11 inches.
I have no personal experience and never heard any complaint from owners, but recently someone mentioned that the wider width makes the car feel stiffer (not clear why, I think one reason given is that it's because you now stretch the tire out and therefore make it stiffer??).
I don't think this is a big deal, except for the most paranoid and compulsive Porsche nuts among us. Smiley
BTW, if anyone has read up on my extremely exciting Smiley (ok, I know it's boring) thread on Bilstein, you'll know that increasing rear tire width will cause the car to understeer more (not good with the Turbo).

    3. 19 to 20: Matter of personal preference so there is no right or wrong. For me, it's most definitely NOT a good move. As you already mentioned, with respect to ride and handling and unsprung weight, there is NOTHING good about using a bigger wheel. I actually think any tuner who recommends or sells 20 inch wheel to customers should be fired on the spot. Smiley Just (half) kidding there.
Good article and advertisement for Dymag wheels: http://www.tezta.com/feature.htm
A thread on this same topic: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/997-turbo-gt2/172131-19s-20s-997tt-cab.html

    4. Neez QD7 versus HRE P40: It's amazing how 2 very similar designs (mesh with 7 double spokes) could look so different. The Neez to my eyes is more linear and concave, the HRE more curvaceous and 3D. No winner -- both great wheels.

    Re: 19" vs. 20" Wheels on 997TT

Thanks Guys. Since I love the way the suspension is set up on my car, now, I think I'll stick with 19"s. Cannga, thanks for attaching the photo of the 997TT with Neez.  I like the finish on them, looks good against a silver car. Not as extreme as all black and helps give it some contrast. The bummer is if I order the Neez I gotta wait 4 weeks or so to get them from Japan!

    Re: 19" vs. 20" Wheels on 997TT

Yes that finish is not normal flat silver, but seems to be shiny like the stock Turbo's.
Keep in mind that TPMS may not work properly with the Neez wheel; I don't know if they've corrected the problem. I think (not sure) it's because the Neez wheel doesn't have the appropriate indentation for mounting the TPMS transducer/ valve stem.

Do post pictures if you are going ahead. They are beautiful wheels.

     Hi there,

AMT might be another option, but they are super-lightweight and claim to be very well engineered.. I'm half-considering some..

I've no connection/experience with them, but the guy from AMT is on 6speed (ForgedWheeler)

Dymags.. New ones are 4.5kg!! Look amazing, especially In real life, and transform the car's handling. Have them for a while now and they are amazing. Best mod I did for this car (no affiliation) and I ve done many many mods!

    Re: 19" vs. 20" Wheels on 997TT

I found that 20's actually ride and feel better on my car.

Everyone has their preference and loads of people are against 20s...but remember when everyone was against 18s when 17s were stock wheels on cars?

I personally would never go back to 19s on my car.

I had all the same fears as everyone else...and just went for it and am so glad I did.
