Are you really talking about a 997 here?
Oil change intervals should be much longer than that.

Forget what you knew about oil change intervals in the traditional engine units. Besides I understand your question since the loose wording of TFM doesn't explicitly refer to the oil change intervals. 
However, both engines in the 997 series have been developed as to significantly improve the TCO, thus don't even bother about oil change in just 3,2k miles even not in 6k miles.
According to PAG the nominal mileage comes up to 20k -exceptions, however, apply depending on the driving styles and conditions.
FYI I attach a cutting out of the 997 Product Information book (wasn't delivered to you with the car) describing in broad terms the changes between the (997) 3.6lt and the 996 respective unit. But don't be hurry!!! Plenty of data related to the oil/air-filter/plugs/belt changes are also applied to our 3.8lt engine.
So the only thing you will have to worry about your oil is just the topping off due to oil consumption.

In Hawaii, where owners typically drive fewer miles than elsewhere, our dealership (we have only one) recommends an annual oil change and service. That is what I have done. My first oil change was at about 4k miles (after one year of ownership). I'm coming up on two years in July and by then about 7k miles will be on the odometer. Once again, I will go in for the annual service. It costs about $400+ and well worth it for the peace of mind.

I changed mine-2006 CS-- (dealer) at 10K,,,despite the 20K rule in the manual. I drive every day, large extremes in temperature and mostly highway miles. I plan to continue the 10k schedule.
I enjoy working on some aspects of my cars-- simple jobs and sometimes oil changes. How many of you change oil in your P cars? Locally, they change about $200. Seems steep. And,if you don't , do you always use the P dealer,,,or, do you trust good 'private' shops. I have a very good local 'German' car shop who is more than able.

BTW, make sure you have the dealer change your oil when recommended even if you DIY before then. Why? because the dealer mechanic is _ALSO_ supposed to check and tighten hoses, bolts, and check a whole list of other stuff after the car has been in service for two years.

I believe it should be based upon the sort of driving you do, regardless of the factory recommendations. You can use their's as a departure point. If you are in harsh environments (extremes between hot and cold) or particularly dusty roads then you should favor the low side on oil changes. If anything, change it once a year. Mobil 1 is so good that it is rediculous to change it more frequently than 10,000 miles/12 months.
