    Testdrove 997TT today....

I Testdrove the new TT today. Manuall of course.
Well in overall the this car is a beast.
    Some things I didn't like:
There is still a small Turbo Lag. Well you better keep over 3000rpm, then it goes off like a plane, any time you push the thorttle.
This car is so fast, that the 1st gear seams really to short. But it isnt, cause you reach 70km/h.
Steering is good as long as the car is in RWD mode. As soon as some more power is tranfsformed to the front axale, the steering gets really bad. Thats the reason I never liked 4WD cars. But I had dry conditions, so the car felt most of the time like a RWD, but as soon as you are cornering a bit harder, or starting to slide the car, the steering changes due to the power transformed to the fron. BTW you can do some nasty slides with this car. The first times are a bit strange, but you get used to it, as you get used to drive a TT Motor.
The car had short shifter. Hornestly I never liked it. Its to hard, and you don't get the same feedback as with the normal system. You also get used to it after a while, but I preffer the "long-shifter".
I personally expected the sound to be really bad, since everybody was claiming. Sound is not so bad, of course I have PSE on my car, so its completley different, but the sound in the higher revs is ok. Sure nobody will notice you are coming if he stands 500 meters away, but its not always bad if you know what I mean.
But anyway I would change the exhaust.

So final conclusion, the car is really great. I drove the old TT many times, and I also drove the 996TT with Powerkit on the A1-Ring, 4 years ago. The 996 TT with PK seemed to have less turbo lag, if I remember corectly. But the 997TT is really a much better Car. The limits on this car are so far away, that you think this is the first car without limits. But I would prefer this car, with the same HP, BUT with a NA motor and rev limiter over 8000rpm. This would be the perfect 997TT, ehhmm we would need to say, the perfect 997 NA!
So I personally would prefer the 997 GT3. Unfortunatly it doesnt has as much HP, but all the really small things that I didn't like on the TT, should'nt be an issue on the GT3.

    Some Pictures:
BTW GT Silver is the best color IMO for the TT. Pictures doesnt show the reall beauty of this color.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

Thanks for the review! I thought many of the same things about the 996TT - appreciate your experiences.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

In RWD mode? I believe that the Turbo is ALWAYS an AWD car. Don't think you could switch that on/off.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

    Thanxx

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

Yeh im pretty sure its always AWD, like the C4?

You can't. The computer does it for you. Isn't it true that in normal driving conditions, the car gets all it's power delivered to the rear axle?

That's the part that's disconcerting. When driving hard, the computer starts to divide the power between the axles and it makes the feedback to the driver difficult to interpret (steering feel changes).

My understanding is the same as yours. The AWD function really comes into play only under certain circumstances.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

    Where is That? Very picturesque.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

Northern Austria, I'd venture to say.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

I think in normal driving conditions the setup is 10% front and 90% rear wheels.
But if necessery 100% of the power could be transmitted to the front wheels. When this happens, the steering feels really very strange. Its not somethig that you want while sliding or cornering very fast. But as stated before, after a couple of times, you get used to it.
And unfortunatly you cant control it, this goes over the PTM system.
I always said that it would be perfekt if there where a knop to turn of the AWD mode. Also for the 997 C4, so that you really only turn the AWD system on if necessery. (rain, snow). It should be really easy to do, since everything is already computer controlled, why they don't is one of the porsche secrets.

I did the pictures, near and at the Vienna Airport.

    Eastern Austria.

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

The Salzburg carplate should tell you...

    Re: Testdrove 997TT today....

You right about the platte, but I took the car from my dealer in Vienna. The Autrian Porsche import department is in Salburg, so most of the new Test cars have a plate from Salzburg.

Actually there are some 996 TT owners who did an aftermarket conversion from 4wd to rwd for exactly the reason you described - they liked the engine power of the TT but not the 4wd.

With northern Austria I meant Niederösterreich. Is that where you were? Should've said the Northeast .

Well, the plate tells me where the car is coming from, but if Salzburgerland has such nice flatlands, I better check my map following skills .
