    Navigation Question

When planning a tour/trip I've entered way points cities/towns along the way to my final destination, but as I drive the route, the navigation lady expects me go to the center of each way point town instead of skirting the town on the freeway. If I don't follow her directions, she becomes very upset and orders me to make a U turn. She won't direct me to the next way point until I've completed the last one.

How do I overcome this so I don't have to listen to her nagging at me. If the answer is RTFM, which I have, what page is it on?

    Re: Navigation Question

Select and delete the way point?

    Re: Navigation Question

Try pressing the Diversion button (the wavy arrow located on the right edge of the PCM). (Section 9.6 Diversion, page 151 in my 2006 PCM manual)

"You can use the Diversion function to block a section of the route still to be traveled, which can vary in length. The PCM calculates an alternative route segment (e.g. in a traffic jam)"

Yeah, I think that may be the way to do it. Select the way point and choose "skip".

I've tried that a number of times even using 50 miles of diversion, but the navigation lady keeps nagging me to pull a U turn, so I just shut her off.

    Re: Navigation Question

It appears there is a way to pick way points using the cursor/cross hairs feature, but it's going to take me awhile figure out how it works. Part of my problem is the resolution on the screen isn't good enough to correctly position the cross hairs. It's tough to work on this thing when the car keeps wanting to shut the system down to save the battery.

Yes I know this is basically a useless toy in a performance car, but damn it I paid for it, and I want to make it work!

I gave up on it. Too much cumbersome input and operational work to use it like intended.

I switch on map function and find the roads myself. Use "zoom in" as I get closer and closer.

I try not to slam into the car in front of me while doing this.

    Re: Navigation Question

An alternative method is to do your homework BEFORE you even get into the car. Start with Google Earth and find the Lat/Long of each critical turnpoint much like you would do a flight plan. Then create a TOUR within the navigation system and enter the positions one after another as waypoints.
