    I hope so... since the PDK has seven gears and the manual only six. Smiley

    What is interesting though, that it effectively loses .1 second from 100 to 200. Therefore, no advantage for the PDK there.

    Then again "The seventh gear of the PDK has a shorter ratio in all 718 four-litre naturally aspirated engine derivatives.Smiley

    Good question! My understanding was, that the GT cars have seven drivegears. On the other hand, would be interesting to know if the 4.0 and GT4/Spyder have differing gear ratios.

    Configurator says a shorter 7th. Swiss one also says ohne komfortorientierte Kriechfunktion which I guess means it might make noises like the GT3s do..

    No, I believe that is the engagement of 1st gear when on idle. To slowly “crawl” forward without having to press the throttle.

    I think the main acceleration advantage of the PDK is the launch (0-30kph).  It's actually slower than the Manual from 100kph to 200kph, despite having to shift twice and having more torque from the engine (ECU sets peak torque 11NM higher, since no limitation from the gearbox).

    The only explanation is that the PDK weighs more and wastes more power as heat in the wet clutches, so less power gets to the wheels.  I thought the extra torque liberated by the ECU would offset this in a straight line, but only for the first few meters from launch.

    From the description, the first 6 gears are the same which means top speed comes in 6th and 7th is just a cruising gear for quiet and fuel economy (just not quite as lazy as the stock 7th gear).

    Yes, gearing is different from Manual but the same as all the other PDK 718S cars (except 7th gear) it seems.

    Yes, gearing is different from Manual but the same as all the other PDK 718S cars (except 7th gear) it seems.

    I can get behind "one of the best" for the money, but cannot get behind "purest . . . ever made."  Modern GT cars are pretty usable and cushy.  That is not a bad thing because fatigue is lower and thus we can use these cars more often, but the rawness and complete purity is gone.  I have a 981 GT4.

    Do you think 981 is more fun to drive beacuse is more raw and visceral? 718 has lighter steering and much lighter clutch pedal than 981?

    The 4.0 would normally have more torque, but Porsche had to limit peak torque in the 718 to be same as 981 (which was already artificially limited in torque), because the gearbox is rated for only 420 NM.  So, different is that 718 has a bit more push near redline (200rpm higher), but otherwise similar but quieter in new car.

    I think there are only a very few 981 owners having replaced their 981 with a 718... however, things like digital radio may be seen more often in 718 ... , for example ... 718 is always the newer car ...

    I think the consensus is that if you have the 981, the 718 isn't enough of an upgrade to be worth the significant price increase. You could probably find a 991.1 GT3 for around the same money as a new 718 if you are cross-shopping. Also, the 981 is more rare, and a bit less refined, the latter may offer a more visceral experience. Also, the 981 sounds better if that's important to you.

    This is also why the 718 GTS is the more desirable acquisition than the GT4.  It’s basically the same car minus the rose jointed suspension, making it a better daily driver.

    Yes, if you want a daily driver the you get a daily driver. If you don't want a daily driver than your logic does not hold well Smiley

    _DSC3301.jpgI installed the RSNV wing risers on the car. The risers are 3 inches higher than the original ones and also a bit wider front to back. It does put the wing in just perfect position, as I always found it a bit too low before. There are other risers on the market, but all even higher and this I did not want. The fact that many US owners changed from higher models to these ones helped me decide.

    The risers have been extensively tested in wind tunnel and the manufacturer claims 20% more downforce at 80 MPH. This is balanced by removing the front aero ducts. Many US owners who track their GT4 cars have reported much improved high speed stability with the combination.
