    SportAuto (with PDK, SportChrono, LSD):

    0 - 200: 18.3 sec

Hockenheim short circuit: 1:13.9 min, which is just as fast as the Carrera 4S with PDK Smiley

I was reading that issue of Sport Auto last night and I am really in-depth impressed with FL Cayman S. It is IMHO currently the Best sportscar on the market. I am overrating it little bit? Think twice.... Little Cayman S is just 0.5s slower on Hockenheim then 997.2CS(with SPASM, PDK and PCCBs) or R8-both did Hockenheim in 1:13,4min! Apparently new engine is very, very powerfull for just 320ps... Acceleration is not as fast as in AMS test but, SA used car with 19"...

I do not know about you but, history of sportscar has been rewritten with this SA test. FL Cayman S is clearly not in 997.2 shadow any more. We KNOW right now that FL Cayman S is faster then 997.2 Carrera and only marginally slower then SPASM equiped 997.2CS... That is IMHO awsome thing indeed. I will buy one for sure.

Im very impressed as well. Just waiting for testdrive before i commit.

Do you not think however that possibly Porsche is giving 'cherry picked' samples to reviewers? Most reviews Ive read say that it feels much more powerful than 320HP....I wonder if normal production cars will feel like that...

Richard Meaden from DR drove it and came to the same conclusion:

I do not think that Press Cayman S examples are way more powerfull then normal production. Think little bit different-these are most powerfull 320ps on the market...Smiley

Re: FL Cayman S test in Sport Auto and AMS

Porsches, since I can remember, have always been performing beyond their on paper specification.

How else can the Carrera S 385PS, PDK, SPASM, LSD, Sportreifen do a 7.50 NBR lap and the fabled F430 F1 on Corsas only achieve 7.55?

It is rather a case of others overstating/exaggerating or at least not being consistent with their spec IMO.

Fantastic performance, especially if one considers the test conditions (asphalt temperature 4°C at HHR) Smiley
Don't forget that the improvement (compared to the pre-FL CaymanS) is not just coming from some additional horses. Larger track-width and LSD will have helped a lot also Smiley

I don't think that Porsche has tweaked the engines of the press cars. After all PAG may have mixed feelings about the very good test results Smiley

I didn't realize the track width was increased.  Is this done with wider wheels and/or spacers or is the suspension's geometry fundamentally changed?

I don't think so. In the present climate any sale is a good sale and the cheaper model will be easier to shift and partly compensate for the drop in the more expensive models.

I reserve my final judgement until the testdrive but the car looks very promising. Porsche´s "runner-up" models have been very good in the past, just remember the 944´s performance two decades ago. If we focus on PAG´s current lineup, the Cayman has indeed received the set-up that it deserved from the beginning.

I am just curious when PAG made that decision to improve the Cayman´s standing. There is a stronger stylistical differentiation between Boxster, Cayman and Carrera which, timewise, cannot be due to the current financial climate.

Re: FL Cayman S test in Sport Auto and AMS

For the money, i'd think twice about getting a 911 over the Cayman S!! Holy shit this car is serious nowadays! what a machine...

Well done Porsche! This is a very pure and modern sports car.

My Cayman S would be manual with LSD and non-pasm (with coilovers in the pipeline).

8.25min is the time for old Cayman S. I would say that 8.10min will be awsome time.

Re: FL Cayman S test in Sport Auto and AMS

For some reason, I thought the old Cayman was 8:17.  I agree that a 25 sec. improvement is not very realistic.  I think the LSD and new motor will probably make a bigger difference on a short/tight course too...

Here is Timo Kluck doing a 8:17 in the pre-FL Cayman S with a passenger on board Smiley
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7070206090462633370

8:25 was the Sport Auto Supertest lap (HvS) - strange enough, 2 seconds slower than the less powerful 3.2 L BoxsterS.

8:17 was the factory claim (W.R.) for the 3.2 L BoxsterS - can't recall the factory claim for the CaymanS (I think it was 8:12 - could well be if Timo was able to do a 8:17 with a passenger on board).

I agree with Kreso's guess: in the hands of HvS the FL CaymanS could be 8:10-8:12.

Grant, I don't know the details about the larger track width - I just read about it in some reviews.

I'd still rather get the convertible Cayman and save some money in the process. Apart from that I fully agree. Looking forward to spring time...

Boxster S with PASM, PDK, LSD, 19" and SC Plus was tested by Sport Auto in recent issue.

    Hockenheim 1:15,6min

Even Sport Auto stuff wondered about the fact that this Boxster S is much slower on Hockenheim then Cayman S(1:13,9min). Apparently there is difference in PASM setup and not only 10ps between them. Porsche made an decision to distancne Cayman more from Boxster since some other track tests proved the same.

Is it not normal for the open car to have a different suspension set up and be slower. A cabrio Carrera, for example, is also behind the coupe.
