    electronic problems

    Has anyone encountered problems with the PSM and ABS systems failing inexplicibly during competition?

    I have a 996 turbo prepared for tarmac rallies to FIA rules, so not many mods. Just suspension, muffler, airfilter, ECU upgrade (techart) and elf fuel. My car along with 3 others known to me has suffered intermittent systems failures causing crashes.

    Symptoms being the car understeers off the road with front brakes locked up and the rear wheels appearing to still be driving, although no foot on the throttle (fly by wire throttle in a 996).

    Replacement of ABS, G, steering angle and air flow sensors seems to fix the problem until it returns again. Could be within days, weeks or months.

    Makes driving a 996T with 500hp very exiting to say the least.!!

    None of the Porsche mechanics here seem to know what to do or even how to diagnose what is exactly happening. (Australia)

    Anyone in Europe, USA or elsewhere have any ideas?? Please?

    You don't mention whether you use standard road tires or not. Correct ABS and PSM operation will depend on ratio of effective front and rear tire rolling radii staying within the tolerance band allowed for when the initial ABS/PSM set-up tuning was done.

    Non-standard tire dimensions plus different degrees of wear plus non-standard tire pressures might be taking you outside that tolerance band? Just guessing.

    I don't think it'll be down to the elf fuel.
