Re: Porsche iPod / MP3 player "official" factory kit

Thanks for posting those pictures! Can you please let us know how it operates once you get it installed. I'd be curious to see if these work any better than the Dension setup I currently have.

Re: Porsche iPod / MP3 player "official" factory kit

Wait a minute, its NOT a MOST conection???? its just FM modulation???? ... they have got to be kiding me, this is pathetic. In the year 2007 and the solution for connecting a household iPod/mp3 that Porsche offers for their OWN cars and 3 years late is FM modulation?

Can someone confirm its FM modulation and not fiber optic conetion?

Re: Porsche iPod / MP3 player "official" factory k

What a coincidence Look at the labels - Porsche Zentrum Darmstadt is the German Porsche dealership that I bought my 997S from!

Re: Porsche iPod / MP3 player "official" factory k

    See the thread at

From the one-page PDF of the Porsche iPod (Musicplayer) interface, the summary is:

    * Audio in from both an Apple dock and a 3.5mm connection
    * Located in the center console storage bin
    * Presumably, power available from the Apple dock
    * No ability to see any track info on the PCM - it just shows 'iPod'
    * No ability to control the iPod on the PCM (apart from volume)

This seems essentially to be a Aux-in and no more. The iPod display and touch wheel is not an ideal interface for control of the iPod while driving, whereas the PCM display and buttons (and remote steering wheel controls if you have them) are much more useful.

Also, if you look at the PCM display for the Porsche 'Musicplayer' interface, it appears to be nothing more than an FM modulator with an RDS signal saying 'IPOD'. If you want FM-quality sound from your iPod and no PCM control, you can buy an FM modulator in Fry's for $20 or so. I wonder how much Porsche will charge?

I have the m0bridge MOST interface in my 997 Turbo Cab. It's not perfect, but it's probably the best you can do given that it is emulating a CD changer to the PCM. The slowness/clunkiness of the interface is due to the PCM, not the m0bridge. It has been completely reliable so far, unlike some things I've heard about the NAV-TV OPiP.

Unfortunately, it's still not as good as the 8-year old Empeg (also called the Rio Car, ) that I had in my Boxster. Since 2000 I had 46GB of MP3s in a DIN unit running Linux with a fantastic user interface. Unfortunately I had to sell the unit on moving up to the 997 Turbo, as the analog output wouldn't work with the MOST digital fibre bus, and there was no place to mount a DIN unit while keeping the PCM. So much for progress.

Of course, the latest GPS/Bluetooth/MP3 units from TomTom, Garmin, etc. put all this stuff to shame, at very good prices too, but without having an integrated solution. See

Nothing against NAV-TV - I just don't think they're an authorized partner with Apple, so don't have access to their ipod specs, and have had to reverse engineer some stuff which doesn't always work right. Also there are always potential installation issues which can cause problems unrelated to the hardware - not sure how much is related to that. I do have the NAV-TV Tooki bluetooth interface which works very well, and has no problems with the m0bridge ipod interface. Moni (NAV-TV CEO) is also very responsive over on their Tooki support forum.
