PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

It was our first rally so my navigator (my wife) and I had no-clue about the rules, checkpoints etc. but we did out best not to get lost. And I found another use for the sports chrono - (timing between checkpoints) It was very helpful. We didn't know if it was cheating or not to use naviagtion so we left it off the whole time. It was a blast. Driving back country roads, I've never been on before was a lot of fun. Slow but it was fun. Took 14th place out of 2O something in the rally.

I couldn't believe it but we WON, BOTH the PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD AND 1st place in the CONCOURS ! I was psyched!

I Won a bottle of red for the peoples choice award and won the bottle of white and the PCA apple trophy for 1st place.

I just joined PCA and this was our first event. Had a great time at the vineyard afterwards wine tasting (a litle too much fun) Was up at 5 to detail the car, left a couple of hours later and we just got home. The 997 S Cab is such a great car, makes everything a breeze. It's so comfortable.

    Here's a couple of shots :

Thanks MMD. I recieved the PCA "Post" there's so many things to do the next few months. Autocosses, rally's. concourse, etc, etc. We had a great day. Now I have some new roads that are excellent for carving up. We had to stay around speed limit to be on time for the checkpoints so that took some of the fun out of it but I plan on going back with some buds to really drive the route.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Congratulations Stradale!

Sounds like a great time- thanks for sharing.

    Your baby looks sweet !

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Thanks Dude.
Today we were ALL the way East on Long Island. The furthest you could go on the "North Fork". Long Island has some nice little vineyards. Good people, nice cars , GREAT DAY.
I'm doing a Ferrari Rally July 30th. To the Hamptons. Can't wait. Should have some really good pics from that one.

Thanks again. Good night, time to hit the sack.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

Thanks Stradale- guys like you are making the wait even tougher!

Oh well, I guess I'll have to continue to live vicariously.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    very cool

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

That sounds like great fun, Stradale!
But tell me, how can you win a concours in a brand new car? I thought the whole point of a concours was that the best KEPT/restored car wins??

I put my deposit down for my 997 S Cab is August 2004, when I first got to see the coupe in the flesh. So for me the "wait" took 10 months (11 if you count August) to get my car. I didn't know about RENNTEAM until March. I lived "vicariously" through the posters and pictures here and that helps. Right ?
I'll tell you this, it was worth every bit of the wait. You're really going to love this car. For my family -it's the most fun we've had with a sports car yet. No matter what the destination my kids start chanting - "Porsche!! Porsche"! ................The only problem - If I keep driving the car at this rate I'll have 24,000 miles by next July !

That's why I said above - "I couldn't believe it". When I put my Stradale in the Armani/Long Island Ferrari Concours in September I did so just to be part of the event. The Classic cars took the awards. It makes sense though. How much work is it to keep a 2005 looking mint vs a 30 or so year old car. I detailed the 997 that morning but hadn't intended on showing the car. When we pulled into the vineyard at the end of the rally the person standing at the entrance asked if we were entering the concourse. I saw the lot where everyone else was parked was full. There were already cars parked in a dirt and grass field. I asked "where is it" and when he pointed to a paved lot with about 15 cars. I said "sure, why not". To enter the rally didn't cost anything extra and I was going to be there for the picnic anyway.

I was just done explaining to an older couple that we were sitting next to at the picnic that it's the older, best condition cars that have taken the most time to keep looking mint that win the concours when they annouced my name. 2nd and 3rd place cars were mint, gorgeous cars. 199(5)I think 968 and a 1980 something 911 cab.

I have tons of motorcycle show tropies for the Harley's I've built. This was the first time I won anything at a car show. One thing was interesting- I saw the judges spending A LOT of time looking at the 3M on my car. Don't know why.

    Thanks man.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Stradale,

It's great to hear you and your family are enjoying your car so much!
Reading your initial impressions cemented my decision on choosing the cab over the coupe.
This forum does help my wait overall... and your valuable input is always appreciated! All great things are worth waiting for! Thanks again!

Yeah, wouldn't mind seeing more pics of your bike(s) too!

    Wow, great collection!

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Wow Richard.
I'm turning red Thanks so much man.

You're going to LOVE the cab.
If I know anything about myself, I know my tastes in cars change frequently so I want to say I'll NEVER be without a convertible ever again but Who knows ? One thing is for sure - RIGHT NOW I definately feel like we will ALWAYS have a Porsche Convertible... And that's all that's really important to enjoying the car.

I always enjoy reading your posts. Try to make sure you're posting even more once you have your new baby.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Will do Stradale!

    Thanks a lot again!

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Thanks Richard.
Since I was 10 years old I have always had some sort of motorcycle. (When I was 10 it was more like a mini-bike) At 13 I bought my first dirt bike. At 16 I bought my first street bike (didn't have enough money for a car)I've had 4 Hondas (2 Honda V65 Magna's). A 1986 1000 Ninja, 1987 Yamaha FZR1000, 1989 HD 1200 Sporster, 1990 HD Custom Softail, 1993 Nostolgia, 2004 1000 ZX-10 Ninja and the 2004 Electra Glide. 10 street bikes in a row with 1000 cc's or more. The Screamin Eagle that I have now has a 103 inch (1690 cc) stroker motor.

Re: PCA Rally today. L.I. NY. - Pindar Vineyards

    Stradale,

My dream collection- awesome cars and bikes! What a life!

I would love to have a HD some day. I'm happy just looking at them: just like Porsche's- beautiful, a work of art... !

I can also definitely appreciate a fast street bike- although I guess my b.... aren't big enough to own one.

    Take care!

    All the best,
    Richard
