CloseGood decision... as you say best not to waffle and miss opportunities to get the one you want. If I didn't have the need for high ground clearance where I drive, I would easily have an E63 instead of the SUV.

Use higher octane fuel if you have the pre-facelift version, the engine can "use" the higher octane figure, Renntech suggested 27 hp more with 102 octane (Aral Ultimate). No kidding. No ECU adjustment necessary.

When did they start to put the OPF in the E63?
My E63S wagon is from July 2019 and it had the OPF before I put RENNtech Downpipes with OPF delete (Installed by Mercedes official dealer in CH). Pure bliss for the last 10000km. I just love the sound and the performance while being super comfortable and quiet in comfort mode for professional phone calls. I really love this car and how I smoke many Ferraris and 911s but might sell next spring to get something smaller for Geneva trafic.

Porker:This one didn't last long. I somehow couldn't quite get to grips with it, the OPF-sound, the artificial sound in the interior, the ESP that somehow kept intervening when everything was fully off. No... Better not spend too long with a car you're not fully satisfied with I think, so I've switched to an E63 S instead (pre-OPF). Collecting somewhere next week.
Awesome, that is one way to get rid of that annoying sound module.
I was actually surprised that you didn’t go for the E63 directly, although I find the four-door version far more elegant... guess the dog voted for the station wagon?
It's the dog(s)' vote, but also without dogs I would opt for one. I find it cooler as a stationwagon, and it's simply more practical. We're going to the Alps around the holidays, look forward to actually making it up the mountain for the first time, never had 4WD before.

AWD is amazing, especially when you try to reach it's limits. I learned that the hard way when I was 19, slid over all four wheels(!) into a field. The experience of my life. You can't beat physics. 
Car was undamaged...only my pride took a hit.
