Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Finish

My last 997's sand beige interior looks a little too monotonous/yellowish for me. For my next 997, which will also be Guards Red/Sand Beige, I would like to paint the center rear console, not exterior color, but something silver like such as the color of the door handle. I have a couple of questions/request please:

    1. Is there a way or option code to ask the factory to paint the center rear console a color different from the exterior color, in this case Silver on a Guards Red car?

    2. Would Arctic Silver be the color that is closest to that of the door handle?

    3. Lastly, if possible, would some photoshop expert here photoshop the center rear console of the enclosed pictures (btw, not my own) to the same color as the door handle? Thanks in advance.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

    Second picture.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

IMHO, the painted rear center console is a reflection back to the roadster/speedster era. One where stripped down cars were valued for their light weight and lowest possible cost (not a GT car). Also, again IMO, what's wrong with "monotony" in an interior which seems muuuuch too busy in the first place?

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

I know you made up your mind to paint the centre console in a silver colour, but did you ever think of a centre console in carbon? Together with some more accents in carbon that could look rather nice.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

I think with that color combo, a painted center console in the guards red/ext color would look best. You have alot of silver in the car already, so painting the center console silver would continue the monotany...just my 2c

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

IMHO, carbon would be TOO much of a contrast. Dark CF in a sand interior? Go with XCK - rear console console in aluminum look. I think that probably would be quite a classy look. You'd probably have to add a few other aluminum pieces to complete things.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

I don't have painted or aluminum console, but I like the look .... this one on a Cayman S:

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

take some aluminum foil and wrap it around the thing then stand back and blur your eyes. I've got s beige with black mats (like pic) and I think I'll cover my whole console in paisley fabric.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

The door handle is in "aluminium look" finish. If you go through the Porsche Exclusive options list in the US ordering catalogue, you'll find there's a whole range of items you can pick and choose in aluminium look to create the look you are seeking.

I would use the 3D version of the Car Configurator on the German Porsche website if I were you. It lists all the alu-look Porsche Exclusive options and you can see them with photos even. It'll help you visualise things much more easily.

BTW, Georges Hayek (a rennteamer in Beirut) has a 997 with a lot of alu-look options (if I recall correctly). You may want to PM him for some advice. He posted plenty of photos of his alu-look options too so you could search his posts on rennteam for those.

    Hope this helps

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

Whatever you do, remember that we can produce that console for you in any finish you like: exterior exact-matched, silver, alumalook, etc. for half the price of the factory option. Don't do a leather console, just get the car as is, and then order our painted console on the site. No biggie. Easy swap.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

Thanks (really!) everyone for the helpful links & suggestions.

MMD, we have very similar opinions re. the 997 Turbo's unfortunate exterior: way too many vents/slats/etc. However, the 997's interior doesn't "bother" me nearly as much. I am not really THAT picky about "look," but the monotonous yellowish tone was starting to get on my nerves. Hence this "exploration" into silver/aluminum rear console.

To "the Ferrari owner" : I prefer the aluminum look. Even if I like the carbon stuffs, it would be difficult as I have to save my "ammunition" for the PCCB brake. I have a good, but not unlimited budget.

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

    Eric,

You're nuts if you think I haven't thought about 'Eric at Bumper Plug' or don't already know about your universally-praised work. I prefer to have the center console factory-done (I know, it costs more.), but am not entirely happy with their aluminum look door finishers package, so I suspect I will be calling when the car is here. 2 questios for you please:

    1. The door panels around the front door speakers are removable and paint-able/doable?

    2. Aluminum-look (NOT arctic silver) it would be if I like to match center console to the door handle?

    Thank you.

Who do you mean by that?

I always thought it doesn't matter if you choose carbon or aluminium inside a Porsche - they are both fake.

But seriously, I don't think price difference is that much, but I agree with the others here, that the light silver colour of the aluminium fits better to sand beige interior than the relatively dark CF. So aluminium (look ) centre console prbably is the way to go!

    Easy Rider,

This is the info I was looking for. I also just checked the German configurator. Thank you. What's Georges Hayek's rennteam user name please so I could search for his email/PM box?

Atomic, looks like I am heading towards your suggestion. I am having fun deciding on this option and that, but this wait for the 2008 model year is getting expensive. PCCB the most serious "damage," SO FAR.

I think his username is "Georges G. Hayek". I think he posted some interior photos when he first got his 997 a year or two ago...

Re: Help Please: Option For Center Rear Console Fi

Have pictures you could post or email me( cannga@pacbell.net )? Thanks.

Careful, this is "Porsche Country"! "We" don't care for derogatory remarks, even when (particularly when?) they are ouchy-oh-so-true.

Yeah, no problem. I'm a "minimalist" (e.g. where I live is always spotless, lots of glass, and not alot of stuff everywhere; it's sick..., I know) and so I have to say the excessive "noise" of he 997 interior looks best in black.

ENJOY what you decide, nice to have a bunch of different POVs to assist that.
