Sunroof Rattle Noise

First time Porsche owner here. I received my Turbo S a couple of weeks ago and out of the gate, there's an annoying rattling sound coming from the sunroof or passenger headliner area as well as the B pillar. The sound is unlike the squeaks you get on hard acceleration, but a constant rattle triggered by bumpy roads. I don't notice these type of noise in my Toyota, but its suspension isn't nearly as sensitive as the Porsche. My question is are these kinds of cabin noise par for the course?

I do love the car otherwise. It's an amazing piece of machinery.

I had the same noise coming from my glass roof for the first couple of hundreds of km but it disappeared afterwards, kind of weird. Talk to your dealer, this can be easily fixed (I guess Smiley ).

I had annoying buzz from a-pillars and roof. Fixed by dealer. They told me it wasn't done properly at the factory. (I don't have sunroof though)

weired but even in 2013 they are not able to make noiseless sun roofs. In any car I can hear them... big sucks!

For a guy who still hasn't finished his final option list that glass roof is becoming further and further down my list of must haves. I'd love to hear if all you guys get your problems fixed or if this is just an ongoing issue that just hasn't been resolved yet

Very hard to accept that level of quality control on a 200k or+ car . Would assume if it's that noticeable / annoying a final inspection at the factory would have picked it up. Wonder how many miles they test them for prior to delivery. Not enough evidently.

An update on the rattle noise. I brought the car to the dealer and they confirmed the noise and kept it over night to fix. About a mile after I picked up the car the rattle noise came back. It seems the only thing the dealer did was wash the car.

The car is equipped with a metal sunroof and the sound maybe coming from the headliner rather than the sunroof. When the passenger applies pressure to the A-pillar section above the door window the noise goes away. It's fucking annoying now I have to bring the car back in to have them look at it again. If the car has to spend so much time at the dealership, then how is this an "everyday super car". Might as well buy an McLaren.

I'm putting more miles on the car this week to see if it goes away on its own.

Well, I'm all ears on this thread. I gotta say though the more I read and hear about the gt3 the more interested I become in making it my P choice car. At least they don't have an option for roof in it.

As mentioned previously, although my 991 does not have a sunroof, the noise you seem to indicate is the same as I had. OPC told me it was headlining not attached properly at the factory. They had the car for three days and glued it well and truly in place. It stunk of glue afterwards but is fine now.

An update. After 3k miles, I notice the rattle a lot less, almost within the threshold of being acceptable. I wonder if this has to do with the fact the tires were way over inflated when I received the car (59psi rear, 50psi front).

I would not accept any rattle. The problem: once you had it you always concentrate on it.

It is difficult not to have rattles and noises on sportscars when driven at low speed on imperfect surfaces. On the highway it is a different matter.

The suspension is firm, the tyres have a low aspect ratio and the cabins are small and tight. Sunroofs and cabrio tops accentuate the issue. Many rattles and noises are also ambient temperature related. Some disppear in hot weather but others might become noticeable.

The best solution is not to concentrate on those and when in the city use the sound system

same rattle here on my 4S with the glass sunroof. It comes and sometimes it disappears. parameters seem to be temperature and lubrification.

Porsche sunroofs have always rattled. Sad that even the 991 roof rattles but then again there is more to rattle. Unless it is related to cold weather I would have the dealer address the problem while you have a warranty. In the long run a rattle will result in a lose bolt or nut and then, generally one week after the warranty, the entire roof mechanism will no longer work - most likely stuck open in a rain storm. Ask me how I know this!! A rattling sunroof WILL fail sooner or later.

Turn up the stereo. My 991 A-pillars are now squeaking both sides. Passenger seat also rattles. Car has done just 4,000 miles.....
