250 GT Lusso

Hey guys!
I notice you mostly talk about new Ferraris here... No classic car fans here?

I have recently fallen pretty bad for the 250 GT Lusso, one of the most beautiful cars of all time. I've never driven an old Ferrari and I'm very curious what it would be like. Is there anyone who know where it would be possible to get some time behind the wheel of a 250 GT Lusso or something similar?

I'm a 275 GTO California Spyder fan. I know a guy who has won, and it was awesome.

Lussos are big money these days! Doubt you will find a rental or a loaner Lusso anywhere. 330's are more "common"
and more "affordable." Maybe you should start with one of those instead?

I have personal experience with the 330. They drive nice, but really they were more touring car like then point and shoot sports cars.

They feel heavy, planted and stable at over 100mph and sound great! If you intend to get a Ferrari from that era, one with a 5spd is better than one with a 4spd and overdrive. Check out tune up parts prices. Caps and rotors were exhorbitant, even at wholesale cost.

My neighbor had a 250 Lusso until last year. The car was drop dead gorgeous in midnight blue and brown leather.
He seldom drove it except locally to cafes. If anyone
here is from around Larkspur and been to the Blue Rock
Cafe you know the Lusso I'm describing. His everyday car was a Z28 Camaro convertible that he really liked.

Jim! Thanx for all your input. Much appreciated.
I know Lussos are big money, and if I decide to get a Ferrari from that era (the most beautiful one) I will start with something less expensive and work my way up. Right now I would just like to get some wheel time to see if it meets my expectations. But at the same time I'm afraid that I'll get put off by driving an old Ferrari. What if driving one shatters the romantic picture I've painted in my mind?
The last classic car I drove was a BMW 507. It's a fabulous car, with an amazing engine (and sound) and great ride. It too is more of a touring car, but it's great fun to throw around on twisty back roads as well.

The hunt goes on.

Years back I had the pleasure of participating in a classic car rallye.
I got to drive an Convertible E-type Jag V12 from the mid-late sixties I think.
At first it was horrific because is was hopelessly out of date handlingwise, it was wobbly, the seats sucked and things didnt work the way I was used to from a modern car.
But the darn thing grew on me.
I drove the car for almost 15 hours that day, and when I had to return it, it had been one of the most enjoyable and memorable cars of my life. And it still is.
So whatever car you choose to test, do yourself a favor and give it some slack. 3-4 hours maybe...and then pass judgement.
There is a reason why these old cars are called classics.
I hope your way to finding out will be an enjoyable one.
