Here is my (unwanted) reply, sorry easy_rider - But First - Atlas Grey rocks!
I love ya man! Can we agree that the driving is more fun than the buying? JeeeeZZZZZ - I have owned 7 Porsches over 27 years. All of them USED - oh my god - did he say used? No one on this board is as 911 crazy as I am - heck I was even born Sept. 1963.
As a kid I endured endless hours of work while all my friends played so that, at 15, I could buy an orange, used, 72' 914.
Since that car (which was brutally destroyed by a drunk who almost killed me at 16) I have bought only 911's - most of which cost me far more to own and operate than I could afford.
Regardless, it has been worth every penny. It's all about driving for me!!! And I have had the pleasure of spending almost every mile of my life behind the wheel of a 911 - by my records more than 520,000 and counting.
All of them in wonderful, used, Porsches that others had written-off - some optioned in colors that would make you throw-up. No matter - it's all in the driving and enjoyment - for me.
I also have never had a car payment and most of my cars have sold for just a little less than what I paid for them years earlier.
I credit the lessons learned by smartly trading Porsches to some of my other life successes. At this stage of my life and career I could easily go and buy a new Porsche but I consider the time spent finding a good used model and having the discipline to avoid the temptation of buying a new car even more satisfying. Like Easy_rider, who appreciates the ordering process and the ability to delay gratification, I appreciate spending wisely and driving the car that I consider the only alternative to walking.
By the way, I still value my # of Porsche miles over my # of posts.
Peace to all - especially easy_rider!
