This a summary of a group test from Autocar with Golf R, Megane 250 and Focus RS.

Autocar testers were not enthusiastic about the Golf. Expected, as it was compared against their favourite name, Ford! In the UK they are under the fallacy that Ford is somewhat british!
For the real world who would be foolish to pay and choose either the Ford or the Renault instead of the Golf R? I wonder!

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts
I've got a Scirocco 2.0TSi and would probably have gone for the R if it had been available when I was purchasing. That said, it is £5000 more, and you don't really get that much extra for your money (55bhp, electronic LSD and a few bodywork/interior tweaks). If it had 4WD like the Golf, then the pricing would make more sense.
987 Boxster & New VW Scirocco
New Megane 250 better car overall then Golf R or Scirocco R? According to who?
You? In that case I respect your SUBJECTIVE opinion.
BUT, if it according to UK car press... In that case...
BTW, I tried new Megane 250 few days ago... Not impressed at all.
REALZEUS:
I was referring to the Megane Cup Kreso. Perhaps you drove the non-Cup version.
You are talking about OLD Megane Cup. I am talking about NEW Megane RS with 250hp. The I drove was with all sport goodies a la diff etc. Car is nothing special IMHO.

People with a functional brain?
The Golf costs 10'000 euros more than the Renault and it's the inferior car.
Go for the Renault if you want to keep the car for a few months.
A 5 year old Golf is like a 1 year old Renault. Whether you buy Golf R or Renault Cup the car underneath has to be of certain quality. I've had several Golf and I know their higher quality.
Why do you think Golf is #1 in its class in Europe in spite of its higher price? So many people cannot be foolish.

I am taking about the new, 250 BHP Megane Cup. This one: http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/megane250/specification/technicaldata/Default.aspx I reckon you test drove the standard and not the hardcore Cup versions
. I am reserving judgement till I drive the R but I don't have high hopes after driving the GTi... too soft and understeery for my liking.

I have driven both, the Renault Cup and a Gold R (a year ago), and you can't compare the two. The Golf R is much more useful as a daily driver.
If you want to heavily modify the car for track use, cheap and easy replaceable parts, go for the Renault. But on normal streets, you will prefer the Golf.
A million flies cannot be wrong, *** tastes wonderful.
Polo GTI guys, Polo GTI! That is the one I really want as my city car. It's small (I LOVE small cars - that is what a true hot hatch is all about!), quick, fuel efficient, environmentally friendly, and looks cool!
Anyone knows when it is coming out?

Already out in Germany. Rest of EU within one or two months.
BUT... I drove Seat Ibiza Cupra(close cousin of Polo GTI) and did not like it at all. Dry Clutch 7 speed DSG is not nearly as good as 6 speed wet clutch version in Golf GTI/Golf R. My advice is something else-not Polo GTI. On the other hand Polo GTI is prefect car for young women IMHO...

What is wrong with the Cupra?
How is the DSG different? I am familiar with the Golf GTI DSG having owned a MkV GTI previously.
Ibiza Cupra feels synthetic... DSG is more oriented to normal driving and comfort then to manual shifts. In comparison with new Golf GTI DSG this Ibiza Cupra feels not soo sporty at all...
My advice is to test drive Ibiza Cupra if you plan to order Polo GTI.
No Seat in Australia anymore. VW pulled it out some 10 or more years ago. I will just wait a few months and drive the Polo GTI before ordering one I think. Not ideal, as I want one asap. But then again, it's not an expensive car, so maybe order it and then see if I like it. It won't be the first car I have bought that has survived less than 6 months!
