Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

as title says, and also to start making some apetite for season 2009........ what is from your point of view the best race in the entire F1 history??

I always have in mind GP of Europe in season 2007, as this has been a race I watched live, I remember myself shouting like an animal, sweating like a pig, and having phone calls multiplied by 10 lol.....it was just amazing.

I just can't wait for 2009 season, only 1month and 7 days or so to go?....what is the count down for the start of the season?????

Also, I'm sure lots of rennteamers will have in mind this insane fight of gilles villeneuve vs Rene Armoux?....I've received some time ago this video various times from some friends, its just INSANE.

What was your best f1 race???? Smiley

Yes the first one is ok because was won by Alonso, but maybe the best era of F1 that I remember was tha Senna-Prost-Mansel... IMO. And the real Piquet not the joke the sun that is now.

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

ok ed, I admit it was because of Alonso's great skills and finally because he won (so that is an extra point for those alonso fans), but I gotta say, its pretty much one of the most exciting f1 races I have ever seen in LIVE, I remember that day like it was yesterday....All those cars finishing near the wall, hamilton's car re-introduced in the track, and then the massa alonso battle, un till alonso overtakes him touching both cars, and last but not least, the little show alonso did showing the camera man what happened with the fight vs the ferrari, that was epic....(may be the little show Alonso did after getting off the car was out of place, but I gotta say, it was something I can't describe, adrenaline was all over me SmileySmiley)

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

I have a few and they all come from the what Ed calls the best era of F1, 1985 and 1986.

1986 Brands Hatch GP, prettiest track in GP racing, looks like they are racing in the country.

    Amazing what's on youtube, this is Senna's qualifying lap;

Piquets qualifying lap, amazing speed around that track

The race was won by Nigel Mansell in a Williams-Honda.

True Fritz, but that misses the "rest of the story".

It was Nigels 1st grand prix victory of his career and his Father was there watching and shown on TV. He looked like an older distinguished Nigel.

I watched that race live with my Dad (now gone). My father liked watching F1 back then and he got a kick out of Mansells old man watching him win.

I taped that race and still have the VHS in storage.

Those were the days with huge sticky compound slicks that would slide under the power of the turbo engines. Today's cars brake much better and get their power down more efficiently with better gear boxes, but for sheer power and excitement those were the days.

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

Hey I got the years mixed up,

It was the 85 european GP held at Brands Hatch that the above story was about, nigel's first win and his dad watching. It was held in Oct. 1985.

The clips are from the 1986 British GP held at Brands in July 86, nigel won both.

The 85 race also was important because it had the first use on espn of an in-car camera on Tambays Renault. I remember the start because tambay was right behind eddie cheever, and flames were shooting out his exhaust right in front of tambay.

Sorry for the others no spanish speaking on the rennteam.... That I´m, maybe, the biggest Alonso fan, but I think where he really shined was last year wining two races with the badest car that Renault maybe did, in all theyr history! And I have to agree that this period in F1 there are more than one driver with the option to win just that maybe it is too much overtaking by pit stop.

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

The best quality footage of Senna I have seen as he prepares to qualify at brands in july 1986. 2 months before I watched him from 20 feet away drive the same car past me during qualifying in Montreal. I was so close I could see his eyes clearly.

A couple years later I had an even better spot to watch him and Prost as Mclaren teammates go past me and see their hands on the steering wheel. I have a lot of great photo's from that time.

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

Villeneuve vs Arnoux: now that was some racing. Why can't we have that again?

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

Because of the current F1 machines SciFrog. Turbulance in their wake do not allow other cars to follow closely. They are hoping by and large to minimise this effect in 2009, but don't expect anything close to that Villeneuve vs Arnoux battle; for that you would need ground effect cars.

    FERRARI RULES!!!

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

I think F1 went too far with aerodynamics. F1 cars should be closer to sports car.

Re: Probably one of the best races in F1 history?

Nah... sports cars are sports cars... F1 cars should be above and beyond anything else!
