Yes, Ferrari has gone way too mainstream with their 12cyl cars. They look like something for retired ferrari afficianados - no fun, somber, no joy!
But much better cashcows...
EDIT:
The only model from Ferrari, that can be compared to a LP 640 is the Enzo, but you have to pay three times as much...
Profitable businesses do need to make cars that actually sell, right?
....P can only sell ?300/yr GT2/3 into US; Lambo sells some ?800/yr G/M into US (w/sales dwn 15% vs last yr)....just not that many hard-core drivers w/equally hard-core cash...
Enzo is old news/tech now anyway....but have heard couple owners call it a "clinical", but brilliant car (and actually enjoyed driving their 360CS more
)....familiar subjective view of many new, latest-tech sportscars these days, eh?
Hard-core F guys can do FXX program and avoid nonsense of street car engineering/traffic compromises and have convenience of factory maintaining/storing the car, etc....and Enzo 2.0 can't be that far off....
But gotta be able to sell at least 5K/yr of easily sellable GT cars like 430/599/612 to pay the R&D bills....by primarily selling to 45yo amateur drivers/poseurs who have spending cash and who want to be able to easily drive their toy to the office/dinner/country club/private air terminal in a typically congested urban/suburban setting at speeds often well under 100MPH....the realities of high-end car marketing vs cash-poor, wannabe racecar driver fantasies.....
