Do I have the only non-S in Switzerland with Swiss plates

Actually, there are three or four non-S in the area I am living, but there are far more S.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

The dealer here in CH sold 27 S for 4 'standards' !
The non S will be a collector :-)

Notice you have a Rickenbacker - looks like a 330 in your avatar. You a Ricky fan?

I'm in Hamburg on business, and I've seen many beautiful 911's here as I walk around with a big smile on my face. It seems that, as far as 997's go, C2's seem to outnumber C2S's by about 4 to 1, which I'm sure is not the case in North America. Is it cost? Taxes on the larger engine?

If I recall correctly Hamburg is Germany's P-car capital (with Munich in 2nd place and Düsseldorf in 3rd place), so I guess that there are a lot of buyers who are using their Carrera just as a daily commuter (no "need for speed" guys )
In the region where I live (near D'dorf - lots of P-cars also like said above) I guess it's more like a 50/50 ratio (unfortunately no "scientific" database available as PAG doesn't publish "S" vs. "non-S" sales).
Anyway I think you're right with the general observation that the "non-S" share is higher in Germany compared to the US ("S" share seems to be higher in countries with strict speed limits ).
Taxes are not an issue (no big difference) - I guess either buyers are more price sensitive or they don't appreciate the "S" advantages for their daily commute.

2 more observations: 911's are 50/50 Cab/Coupe. I've never seen this many cabs before.

Also, more 911's than Boxsters, which I haven't seen before either.

Your observation is correct and also is true for the German market in it's entirety.
    997 Coupé/Cab ratio appr. 50/50 and 997 (all variants) outselling 987 (all variants) by 1.7 X.

Hence my Boxster S is more exclusive than a 997 cab

Bottom line: Cabs have a bigger share in countries with lots of rain and "S" versions are most appreciated in countries with strict speed limits

Living in Hamburg after having spent 7 months in Munich, I can confirm that these 2 cities are flooded with Porsche (but I think you see far more Porsches in an area of Stuttgart called Zuffenhausen ).
Passing by the road along the Elbe, I see 4 to 5 911s in 10 minutes for commuting, mostly in black/dark grey/silver.

In Munich and Hamburg I have the impression there are a little bit more 911 Cabs than Coupe, not by much though. Didn't notice that the amount of Boxsters was lower , but there are definitely few Caymans.

BTW, yesterday I saw the exact same Guard Red 997TT as on the cover page of the latest EVO ( S-GO 508 ) !!

How could I forget Zuffenhausen Now that's the P-suburb of the whole universe Of course Ps don't stand out there because Porsche is just a synonym for car in Zuffenhausen
Sometimes it's quite funny to sit down at one of these street cafés on the poser's miles in Hamburg, München or Düsseldorf - as you said, before you finished your coffee you see at least 10 P-cars or even more and it's fun to watch the various characters driving them. Last time when I had a coffee at D'dorfs Königsallee a really blingey 996 GT3 parked in front of the café and a kind of vulgar appearing blonde jumped out of the driver's seat - guess what, she was driving this baby with high heels

There is one guy commuting through Elbchausse in Hamburg in a Dark Olive/NBL 997S Cab and each time I see him, he never concentrates on the driving (making some calls on his mobile, looking for something in the glove box,...)

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

OPC E London told me that they sell 7 C2S cars for every C2 they sell.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

In Belgium, I rarely see a non-s. However, the official dealer told me they sold far more non-s...

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

In france, you also hardly see a non carrera S

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Just look at this forum. Most own an S! Hey, that's why I bought one.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Just calling 'em like I see 'em: fewer 'S' so far without a doubt.

Also, the 'delete model designation' is pretty popular here. There are many C2 whipping around with no writing on the back at all, but the exhaust and brake caliper colors give them away as C2.

Also, as far as 996's go, I've never seen so many Targas before. I remember another post a few months ago where someone said they were popular in France. Quite true: saw one Midnight Blue, one Seal Grey, and one Black.

I'm now in Bordeaux, and the only Porsche I've seen here is a gorgeous gunmetal blue 993 (widebody I think). While they were more popular in Paris, I didn't think I saw that many - saw almost as many Ferrari to be honest!

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

    "S" vs "Non S"

For North America (USA+Canada) for the past 11 Month (August 2005, June 2006):

    Carrera : 1,326 units
    Carrera S: 2,329
    Carrera Cab: 1,628
    Carrera S Cab: 2,401

    Bottom line:
    "Non S": 38% (Coupe+cab)
    "S": 62%

    Coupe: 47.5%
    Cab: 52.5%
