    GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

    via Chris L. on Rennlist:

    Quote:

I just returned from Road Atlanta and the Petit LeMans. Yes I know it is still ongoing but I have been there several days and could not wait to release this info.

I attended all presentations that were given at the Porshceplatz over the event. This morning the last presentation just over one hour from the start of the race was given by Wolfgang Durheimer, Porshce AG Exec. VP; Harmut Christian, Porsche Motorsports Director; Ume Brettiel, Pres./CEO Porsche Motorsports North America; and Peter Schwarzenbauher, Pres./CEO North America. Wow, what a group!

When it came time for Mr. Schwarzenbauher to answer questions regarding the 997 GT3 and RS I took my chance.

"Will we be able to order these without the hole in the roof?" (No political corectness on my part!)

Are you listening? Here was the answer from the PCNA Pres./CEO.

"On the GT3, no! On the RS, YES, but ONLY because of CUSTOMER RESPONSE!"

Victory for the letter writers after all! Do not listen to those who say that our efforts would fall on deaf ears. It would appear that their opinion has been swayed by our unending effort to have someone listen to reason. When he answered yes on the RS I clapped! Problem was, I was the only one! Here I am at a premier motorsports event with about 100 supposed enthusiasts and no one else seemed to care about that announcement. That certainly showed me what an uphill battle it was for us!

Other things said collectively by the group in response to questions:
    1. The GT3s would begin shipping in Oct. (Hello, that is tomorrow!)
    2. The RS should be seen around late spring/early summer. He would not commit to this however.
    3. The Flying Lizard team in ALMS and the Tafel Racing team in Rolex have each bought two of the new 997 RSRs at $330k each! (They had one there for us to look at and it was sweeeetttt.)
    4. Porsche will never turbocharge the Cayman. It will always sit BELOW the 911 which will always be the backbone of the Porsche company.
    5. Porsche put diesels in the tractors they once made and never again will they build a tractor. i.e. NO Diesels in Porsches ever.
    6. Porsche is doing very well financially. (NO duh based on my expenditures)
    7. The Panamerica/Panamera is on slate to be delivered in 2009. They already have one prototype built.

    Anyway, great news guys.

One last thing. Mr. Schwarzenbauher said that anyone wanting one of the RS should rush out to get on a list! That is the only information he gave that I felt was "old news."

The fact that Schwarzenbauher responded "because of CUSTOMER RESPONSE!" validates many of the efforts of GT3 enthusiasts (people like MJSpeed) who took the time to write to PCNA and express their vile discontent.

However, with every silver lining, there is a dark clound:

Is this just a marketing push for a GT3RS that, in the US, doesn't have enough to distinguish it from its GT3 counterpart (no roll cage, no CGT seats) to justify the price tag?

I'm somewhat happy, yet somewhat perturbed...

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

Thank you very much for that very important info ; but I will delay my joyous response to no sunroof on the RS; until after I study the official; correct order guide for the US market version. I hope that you are correct ! But,
if that; why not the normal GT-3 ? It doesn't make sense.

There is a lot of speculation towards this question on rennlist, Revv. Here are the most prevalent theories:

    1. By the time the consumer response really rolled out, Porsche had already slated US production for the GT3 but not the GT3RS

    2. The widerbody RS has different crash test requirements (4S/Turbo shell) than GT3. Also due to its smaller quantity , it could circumvent expensive crashing for computer simulation (something I find dubious at best)

    3. There is less justification for the price increase between GT3 (aprox 106k) and GT3RS (121k) in the US market, due to the lack of rollcage and CGT seats. PAG saw a need to add more incentive for the RS market, so it wouldn't flop like the 996GT2.

I think it's a combination of a few things, but probably more of #3 than anything...

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

So what is the 15K extra for the RS again?

Wider hips, carbon rear spoiler, special colors w/fancy graphics, light flywheel (maybe), sunroof delete...

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

Don't forget the Carbon Fibre Hood........... Revvv

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

The GT3RS will indeed have a lighter single mass flywheel
    That means faster revs.

Yes, the RS will have SMF in most countries, but it might not in USA (still uncertain)...

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US

Good news for US: no hole in the roof.

In Germany, you cannot order a RS with
    "hole" !!

Oh, have you read the new book from
porsche with the specs 997 GT3 and RS ?

    Bube

The sad thing is how much a lot of people really had to struggle for it...

Re: GT3RS IMPORTANT NEWS FOR US
