Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

2500 mile comments on the 2023 rubicon [392] [AEV]:

Generally a good rig for rough mountain tracks, but.....

This old drill road is 1600' vertical climb, lots of lockers to here.  61F back in September,I get POWER STERRING OVERHEATING message [not today 23F]

    IMG_9484.jpeg

This drill road reminds me of my first life as an exploration geologist in Nevada, Eire, Norway and Morocco. One of the biggest Lead Zinc Silver mines [1870-1950] in the Rockies is just over the hill and they drilled each road for orebody extension.

    IMG_9429 2.jpeg

In Spring [early July] in this other range on a long very rough climb, same overheating notice.

    IMG_9494.jpeg

I had my dealer reach the Jeep engineers - "yes it's a problem, just stop". So Jeep expects owners to be slaves to their trucks just like EV engineers, instead of providing a reliable rig that not only get you Way Back In but Way Back Out.  They also say 2024 no fix, however new suspension, added fender lips as mud buildup is huge on windows, doors, fenders in 2023. I'm trading the 23 for the 24 instead of keeping both, as Madame's jump offs are accessible in the Expedition.

Flash:  The marketing chick who destroyed Bud Light is now at Jeep!!! 2024 interior is bright red leather!!!! Not an option and no other choice!!!  Imagine 4 muddy Labs and muddy me on this, besides the hideousness.

    2024-jeep-wrangler112-649ade6e3b85c.jpg

The good news if your rig is going to AEV, you can add black premium leather for 2800 usd, which I did.

The rig has super steering wheel and seat heat, very important in the Rockies Oct-June, much better eg than the RS6. Also the Jeep locks running for Labs' AC, whilst the Audis and Expedition do not.

It a better rig for bad tracks than the Raptor, TRX, old Rubicons without detachable sways, RR LWB 5L, only the Raptors were absolutely mechanically reliable.

Typical.  Under-tested for moderate off-road conditions.  Same team must work on the Ferrari F1 team side of the company too.   Interesting story about the mine and drill roads. Thanks for sharing.

Once the orebody was drill delineated, being largely horizontal under the hill, the mining strategy was to drive a horizontal adit [tunnel] from the mine mouth over the hill, support the roof, run tracks and roll the ore out. Cheaper by far than vertical shafts.

Development drill holes off existing ore placed by a competent geologist have a high rate of striking the orebody, compared to exploration drilling sited from mapping, geochemical and geophysical anomalies - my exploration strike rate over say 2,000 holes was 10 strikes becoming 3 mines; oil exploration and development have similar statistics.

Well, dueling RS Madame and DaDa, and only one 911!!!!

    IMG_9503.jpeg

Porsche helped by making 992 so fat and huge, and Audi RS by  winning the design sweepstakes against their sister company, per discussion of Panamera turbo S above.  Baby Boomers have labs and skis -- in the Frozen North Audi RS     do well and are very, very quick.

The electronic overkill is a drag, but Porsche has it too.

Thank you for the information.  The son of my former business associate was an independent in the Eagle Ford and Bakken fields so I learned a few things in oil & gas exploration.  We licensed a technology originally developed in the healthcare field for controlling drug migration as an enhanced oil recovery technique. We hired a professor at the University of Texas Austin to help commercialize it.

Just realized your pic is showing my roomSmiley

I will be staying at that penthouse corner suite facing Las Vegas Blvd.

Likely can't see much from the room because of the viewing angle, will be at Venetian hospitality most of the time if not at the Alfa garage.

I had the chance to drive the Cayenne GT (old model) at the Porsche experience center here in the UK yesterday. Even compared to my normal Cayenne turbo it is a beast. Very impressive. My money stays on Porsche for the big car vs Audi….

you mean '24  turbo gt?  quick, but your definition of big car is insufficient [the RS is my Lab rig, Madame does not carry them in the much smaller RSQ8] - please test and see if 4 or 5 95 lb Labs fit easily, if so I'll be all over it; A ROCKET!!!!Smiley

The ludicrous unneeded fair weather electronic complexity of modern Audis becomes clear with snow!  All sorts of warnings this doesn't work, that doesn't work --  just delete them all from. the design!!!!

That’s unfortunate as Audis were masters of the snowy winters.

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

It’s those stupid parking/proximity, cruise control and lane departure sensors. They get snow on them and the car has a melt down (no pun intended).

Re: SUN'S LAST RUN TO WILSON, WY - 991 C2S CAB LIFE, END OF AN ERA (Part II)

Audi's 4x4 system works well, but the grocery chopping nannies  don't like the snow on their cameras and sensors indecision

Turning on tiny slope almost impossible, if it wasn't for lockers, we'd be walking home 12  miles.  Note the semi circular slide marks of no traction.

It looks like  https://www.falkentire.com/wildpeak/at3w. have the best winter capability in 37", I'll put them on the AEV 392n2024, which is now being built at AEV.
