    Radio/navigation question

How do you turn off the radio sound while still keeping navigation voice on?
(I didn't read my manual lately, but couldn't do it intuitively while driving this morning...)

    Re: Radio/navigation question

I think just turn down the radio volume

No, this makes the navi voice go down as well...

    Re: Radio/navigation question

What I do is turn down the radio volume to the desired level (or all the way off). Then press 'repeat', which makes the unit repeat the last nav instruction. WHILE it is giving the instruction, quickly readjust the volume and this will affect only the nav voice.
It's a bit crappy really, when you think about it.

    Re: Radio/navigation question

Also, you can mute the radio (from the audio menu) while still leaving the nav voice unaffected. But the next time you touch the volume control if the nav is not speaking, it's back!

Au contraire - turning the radio volume down does not turn the nav voice down - providing the nav voice is NOT active at the time. At least, that's the way my PCM works.

To quickly adjust the nav voice press "repeat" and adjust the volume whilst the nav voice is active. This should not alter the radio volume.

    Re: Radio/navigation question

Do other car mfgrs with Nav, Radio and CD have these problems and convoluted or non-existent solutions?

Which of those mfgrs seriously deserve an award for most intuitive and user-friendly?

    Just wondering.

    Duh? Doh!

The obvious disagreements on what to do to fulfill a very simple request is proof that Porsche and it's supplier are clueless when it comes to designing a working navigation system. I'm just glad there are world class alternatives that you can buy for $1500 less that work significantly better. Now why the hell can't Porsche ask Apple to design the d*mned thing for them?

Seems like they just outsourced it at the last minute to some local software designer and then slapped it into the car just in time for the 997's introduction.

Where did I hear the facelift will include a much-improved PCM user-interface? Was it here?

    Re: Duh? Doh!

I really don't have a problem with Porsche's PCM nav system - apart from a lack of full post-code address entry.

    Re: Duh? Doh!

In the sat-nav 'set up' you can adjust the guidance volume you want in relation to the radio volume you want.

    It's in the PCM manual....
