Anyone have trouble with defogging you 997s windows????

It seems like in the rain the defogger just doesn't work..... I have it on full blast but the inside of the car is still all fogged up.... in my 996 as long as the AC was on the windows always remain clear.....

Re: Anyone have trouble with defogging you 997s windows????

    No problem here.....works great!

Re: Anyone have trouble with defogging you 997s windows????

Make sure you don't have the recirculate button engaged. That's the typical culprit. Another one to check - new cars always emit vapors that coat the inside of the windows and fog more easily than clean glass.

Re: Anyone have trouble with defogging you 997s windows????

Must admit that I noticed this at the weekend when driving in heavy snow. I had to direct the fans to the side windows to help demist.

I always have the AC on.....

And I tried both ways with the recirculate on and off... The windows just stayed TOTALLY fogged - like so bad I couldn't see at all. I had to roll down the side window in the rain to see.

I'll give them a solid cleaning and see if that helps. In my 996 I just made sure the AC was on and the windows never fogged up.

It was odd, b/c even with the vents set for ON the middle vents had NOTHING coming out of them for a while.... then mysteriously they just started pumping out air.....

Re: I always have the AC on.....

Hey John, I haven't had an window fogging issues, but I will say this: I can feel a little more moisture in the A/C air at 70-75F than any other car I've owned. I don't know if it's on purpose (by design) or not, but so far I think I like it. It has been easier on my eyes. When my windows do fog up, I just turn the A/C on with all the external and internal vents open and the windows clear up just as fast as any other car I've owned. I pass through a lot of foggy forested areas on the way to work so I've done this a lot since December.

I have the AC on FULL BLAST and the windows are still foggy..... ??????????? WTF

Re: I always have the AC on.....

    Did you read the Manual?
Have you tried the de-frost button?

Takes a while for my BMW to achieve a balance in interior humidity, and temperature and "dew point" of cold windows.

We give off a huge amount of moisture, SFCA can be damp, the car sits all night and, unless AC iss used routinely to de humidify, the seats and interior absorb all that moisture.

If you dry the whole car out by *routinely* using the AC the difficulty of quickly defoggging the windows should decrease over time.

IOW, if you took a long trip with AC and heat and recircbutton on, the car would dry out and the next day you'd have no problem defogging windows when you started out in the morning. A few days later, unless the AC was used, the difficulty would creep up again.

All this is what seems to be the case with my car; works for me. If the above procedures/practices don't work, maybe there's something wrong with the system?

Re: I always have the AC on.....

If you search the threads, you'll find a few folks had problems with excess humidity. The cause seems to be an incorrectly fitted gasket in the door...
    This may help...

    Can't find it. I searched.

That defrost button made it worse!!!

    doh !

Re: Anyone have trouble with defogging you 997s windows????

Pure guesswork, but from your description it sounds like your AC is not dehumidifying the car interior, suggesting that the refrigerant circuit might be leaking.

Your dealer would be able to confirm if this is the case.

Get a small sspace heater and open the windows a crack and run the thing in the garage for a day or so. That should dry the car out. This dampness occurs in Boxsters because the drains for the convertable top are plugged.

Re: I always have the AC on.....

Take the car in for repair. There is obviously something wrong with your AC/heater system. My heater system makes a funny whooshing sound on occasion. Also, when i have the temp set to AUTO, attempting to keep the car at a comfortably warm temperature, on occasion it starts to blow cool air and i have the raise the temp substantially to warm the car.

I plan to take it in for a quick look but just haven't had the time to spare - i can live with the whooshing sound and variable temperature for a while...but will definitely get it checked way before summer!!
