I have to agree, Im blown away with the handling of this car and the feedback to the driver. I changed my 993 suspension many times till i have the perfect setup, but nothing compares to this IN ANY WAY. Simply put its as good in the wet as i could imagine and grip/suspension feedback/steering is still challenging/entertaining me after 6mnths. What a blast! Im the weak link in the chain, i need to get a harness and racing seat to stop the tiny Gforce movements I make as the car chassis completely duplicates them in every subtlety way the faster i go. I notice tyres pressures really make a huge difference and i keep an eye on them all the time against the ambient temp out side.
I drove a standard S a mnth ago and it was a completely different car, I was bored immediately by its lack of steering response and agility. Id say if you were in the states id be getting a Cargraphic suspension setup or grab the one Gert at Carnewal is selling (bilstein) and get that puppy to come alive. Nothing can be done re the LSD, that feels like magic to plant a slingshot on the corner.

I think that remark did not relate to mechanical LSD, but the chemical version

They say you get a better 'trip' with LSD.

Have I got this straight...so porsche will only sell you a LSD, if you buy it in a brown paper bag round the back and get 3rd party "dealer" to set you up? Eh what?! Just kidding...

PAG screws is North Americans around, and the irony is that we make them more money than anyone else, so why shouldn't they keep it up?

I'm seriously pissed about the sport suspension issue on the 997, the sunroof issue on the GT3, and the mockery that is the North American GT3RS compared to the ROW GT3 RS.

But what can you do? There really is no substitute.

I doubt Porsche makes most of its money on the North American market. They sell more cars in the EU than in the US, at a much higher profit margin (we pay about 33% more before taxes, and they don't even have to pay for the trip across the Atlantic).

But you're right, Porsche has a long history of cutting corners whenever meeting US regulations implies the most minute expense. Think you have it bad with the 997 RS? How about the 911 SC (180hp vs. 204hp), the 930 (282hp vs. 300hp, when it was offered at all), or the mother of all gimmicks: the 964 RS America (stripped Carrera 2 instead of genuine RS)?

You get cars much cheaper than we do (an Audi A3 TFSI costs as much there as a poorly equipped Golf here), and that goes for Porsche as well. It is only Ferrari that is the exception (they sell their cars at roughly the same prices everywhere).

I think is got a lot to do with PCNA than PAG, for example it was PCNA's desition not to bring the lighter & more agile 996C4 into the US once the C4S was out.
Also you can thank US regulations for most of these problems, that don't happen anywere else in the world.

Makes me mad as well, how US customers can't get the same opcions sometimes, like with the -20mm

You are all correct about the US prices vs. the rest of the world. Even in Canada they are much higher. I would rather pay 40% less and skip the LSDifferential, 20mm etc.. (Go the Porsches various country websites, price a base model and then do the currency conversion

) Here in the midwest, if you factor in insurance, taxes, fuel and the wide open streches of excellent roads (kansas) it has to be the least expensive place in the world to own a Porsche. It's all good EXCEPT - you can't replace the European scenery. I would love to drive my car around Europe for a year or so!

-20mm is not available for the Cabs at all. The Cab has its own suspension settings. Please see my very first post above for the detail on which cars can have it.

the thing I never could understand.
if PASM is sport mode is harder than -20mm, howcome cabs can have the PASM (which I believe has a sport mode too)?

How might someone fit the sport suspension onto a 997S?

Sure, it won't have the LSD, but probably the suspension itself is most of the fun most of the time.

If there is an answer to this, then the next question is why is it not against NA bumper height regulations to retrofit the sport suspension (or lower your car), while that would seem to be the argument for PAG not offering it in NA in the first place? I guess that also begs the question of how much lower the NA GT3 is compared to the 997.

But Jeannot, the PASM set up is a little different on the cab than on its equivalent Coupe sibling.

It could be difficult to have such a stiff chassis (-20mm) on a convertible??

The suspension in the cab with PASM is softer in std. and also in sport mode compared to the coupe, and very obviously softer I might add.

Indeed,

The settings for PASM are softer on the cab. Even on the Targa. I think that even if you change the dampers and springs you will NEVER GET THE PERFECT traction an LSD offers.
