What oil ?

My C2S has covered 5000 miles and now tells me it needs some oil. What type/brand/spec should I be putting in?

thats pretty good, I am surprised during breakin..you didnt need oil a few thousand ago like at 2k or 3k..miles

I put in three quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 weight by mile 3200. Some breakins are easier than others!

Unless you're driving where it is reeeeally cold all the time, *5W-40* might be a better choice. Theoretically you'll burn less oil with it compared to 0W-40.

The only other oil recomended by Porsche (see photo of manual below) is 5W-50 but it's said to be hard to find.

My 997S came from the factory with Mobil 1 5W-40, but I have only been able to get 0W-40 for the times I have needed to add oil. Thus far, I have added about 1.85 liters over 4,000 miles. The use goes up when I push it harder, but that's the nature of the engine.

On the subject of oil does anyone know what the oil capacity of the engine is? All the documents I have read draw attention to the efficient use of oil and the small amount required but doesnt show the actual capacity!

8.5 quarts according to the manual:
