Saturday morning I was just finishing my morning bike ride when I had a bad heart attack. Plaque got loose and blocked one artery completely. It was a bit touch and go for a while. But thankfully the quick thinking of my wife and some smart medics got me sorted, and now I have a shiny new stent in one of my arteries. (the other two were shiny clean). My diet was good, my chlorestorol levels were fine, a previous stress test showed up nothing, I run up several flights of stairs etc. I'm now back home getting adjusted to a little more careful eating and exercising regime. But if you're of a certain age and haven't had a good check over recently I would urge you to do so. From personal experience the alternative is really not very pleasant!

wishing you a fast and good recovery le chef . thanks for your advice for check up.but when you say at a certain age;what age bracket r u talking about?

    Re: OT: Beware!

Here's to a speedy recovery These type of life lessons are to valuable to ignore. We should all take note! We forget too easily that health is the real key to enjoyment. Were all guilty of this especially as we get into our prime working years in the 35 to 45 age bracket, were all very susceptible. All the best LeChef.

    51

is "that age" and like many of you I've spent the last 6 years helping turn around a company. You tend to put the other stuff aside, despite telling the people who work for me "health and Family come first". So I broke my own rule, and didn't get checked last year, didn't exercise as much as I would like, etc...

    Re: OT: Beware!

    Get well soon.

    Re: OT: Beware!

Le chef hope you are okey now , full recovered!!!!

Hoping that your health will be doing as well as the company you turned around!

    Re: 51

Hope you have a fast and speedy recovery!!

    Re: 51

I hope you recover well and can change a few habits and squeeze the most good out of this crappy warning you received.

    Good! Thank you for asking!

I'm realizing how the blocked artery was contributing to me feeling sluggish for about 6 months before the heart attack. I'm looking forward to getting the cardiac rehab going so I come out better than I went in. Maybe also some of those clothes that I loved and can no longer wear will fit again.

I'm also looking forward to taking a road trip to Virginia with my wife to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary (one thing that I kept focusing on as I thought I was going to pass out). Hopefully the new cab will be in by then and we can take that and get the required 2000 miles on it in an enjoyable way.

    Re: Good!

Glad to hear you are okay & that someone was nearby and you got help so quickly. I hope they haven't restricted your meals too much to spinach and the like, all the best.

It's not bad - red meat once a week, red wine - YESSSS! But the kicker for me (and for Wallace of Wallace and Grommet fame) is the CHEESE. I love the stuff with a good glass of red wine but I've been told I can only have the stuff that tastes like the cow just ate telephone directories all day.

And for Brits, the jury is still out on whether I can continue with Marmite and Bovril - hope so!
