    R8 performance....

Audis left little to complain about in terms of luxury but I feel that they have wasted their chance to blow their competitors out of the water in terms of performance. All they had to do was to take off 200lbs of what they have now and perhaps add power but weight is the most important thing. Why does this car weigh more then a C4S which also has AWD and rear seats as well.
There are talks that audi may make a lightweight version. Yes this is totally unconfirmed but is it crazy to suggest that audi may and should make a "GT3" version of the car. I was really hoping audi would put perfomrance first with this car. Again everything is great just not the weight. Power will be solved with a V10 if thats a problem for you.
Weight is very important to the sports car image and being heavier then the porsche counterpart is not good imo.

    Re: R8 performance....

Audi doesn't want to screw Lamborghini. Had they not bought Lambo, the R8 would be much more powerful from the start.

    Re: R8 performance....

k then why isn't the gallardo lighter?

    Re: R8 performance....

Gallardo(520hp) coupe weight is around 1610kg(measured by AMS).
Why is R8 so heavy(1560kg)? Safety I Guess... It has more more advanced airbags then 997 series. And there are a lot of new technology in R8. B&O sound system is THE BEST one in all sportscars and it is not that heavy at all but, it adds few kg's as well. But, as I wrote before choose optional bucket seats and ceramic brakes and weight goes down 45kg's!
Since RS4 Limo proved to be very fast in acceleration and around track(Hockenheim 1.15,4min! Faster then 997 Carrera S with PASM 1.15,6min) I do not have any doubt that R8 will perform well.
    In most sporty setup:
    -Magnetic Ride
    -Bucket seats
    -Ceramic brakes
    -Corsa tires

It was 15s faster around Ring then RS4 Limo(8.09min) so, you can expect faster time then 997 Carrera S(X51) around Ring from R8...

Back to Gallardo... With optional Ceramic brakes Gallardo has the same weight as manual 997 Turbo with PCCBs!
And do not forget that Gallardo is a lot faster on both Oscherleben and Hockenheim(race tracks in Germany) then 997 Turbo.

    Re: R8 performance....

Business decisions, if they make the car lighter but you can't get B&O sound system or elect seats, ect... they would loose more buyers than if they made the car lighter. You may not buy the car because of weight but there are more people that would not buy the car because of options. The very best carmakers already recognize this thus the weight issues.

    Re: R8 performance....

Kreso since you are online right now, can you give a basic description of colors? I cannot read German so can't figure out the basic such as blue, white, black, silver... Thanks

    Re: R8 performance....

    Thank you, never saw this.

    Re: R8 performance....

do you think next gallardo my08' will be any lighter
if you how? I read somewhere one of the "future" develpoments on the gallardo is more to do with losing weight than gaining power ?
an 06 gallardo with e-gear = same weight as 997 turbo
has more power but slower under 250kpm is this correct ?

do you have an "official test of 520hp e-gear gallardo ?

    thanks

    Re: R8 performance....

Next Gallardo update will be(a rumor!) 550hp FSI version of V10, refined e.gear as well as refined chassis.

The Turbo is king until 200 km/h, but then starts to lose ground to others. Both the Gallardo and the 430 start reeling it in, as does the Corvette. What is missing here are the 0-300 km/h times, which would be very useful.

    Re: R8 performance....

In another thread, these 4 cars are 40-41s to 300, very close.

I know, Markus posted his experiences or experiences of his friends. However, we're still several confirmed times short. It'd be nice to see which car gains where, just for the sae of bench racing if not anything else .

The problem is: the 997TT is only king up to 50kph. Beyond 50kph, F430 and Z06 are faster (at least up to 250kph)

According to this test, the Turbo is actually only slower from 100 to 200 km/h than the Z06, beating both the 430 and the Gallardo, even when timing from 100 km/h onwards. The problems start when going past 200 km/h, which logically is where the car will stay most of the time, so your contention about it being slower is actually correct, when it comes to the relevant speed ranges. Like I've said before, 0-50, 0-100, 0-160, 0-200, 0-250 and 0-300 km/h measurements should be a standard for testing these cars. The Turbo is superior to both the 430 and the Gallardo up to 200 km/h, actually pulling on them even from 100 km/h onwards, but it only loses ground above 200 km/h - that's something you can't know unless tests are done (or if Dario reports that a croatian Gallardo raped him on the Autostrada ).

    Re: R8 performance....

Kreso Sport auto mk 1 gallardo tested weight 1500kg. Why is 2006 are heavy?
Because of lift system maybe?? I dont know how much that system weighs.

Luckily, the sportscars test had also been published in AutoBild several weeks before. There they also included the 0-50 performance.

On that basis I have calculated the following 50-250kph times:

    Z06: 18.6s
    F430: 19.3s
    997TT: 19.6s
    Gallardo: 20.1s

That is: from a rolling start, Z06 and F430 are faster (up to 250kph) than the 997TT

Ouch! Well, test drive a Gallardo, just to see if it tickles your fancy. After all, it is an Audi . Looking forward to hearing about the 599 performance .
