    Volkswagen rebranding in NA

    Volkswagen may be rebranding their cars in North America, where their EVs will wear a "Voltswagen" badge. 

    Could very well be a joke, but:

    We covered this yesterday in the Tesla thread (of course Smiley) and here is what I wrote:

    On the other hand, VW Group did exactly what I expected them for a very long time to do but they delayed it for whatever reason, maybe because of the pandemic or maybe because of Trump, I don't know.

    Fact is now: VW Group is moving fast with EVs and this could put huge pressure on Tesla and by huge I mean huuuggggeee. They invest billions in EVs right now and will try to cover every possible angle, including the performance one.

    Will be interesting to see but I have to admit that so far, the Americans (not only Tesla) have the more attractive EV products (for my taste).

    You can put as many billions as you want, once a brand is established and the hype is high around it there is not much you can control. The customers and fanatics for Tesla is huge. Good luck for VoltWagen to pretend changing that.

    Audi and Porsche. Tesla won't be able to fight these brands for long if they deliver similar performance at similar prices. I hope VW Group is intelligent enough to work with lower gain margins here, otherwise they are going to be toast before they even started. Smiley

    Yes, there is a big Tesla hype but when EVs start to start off seriously, the typical Tesla hype buyer will be in a huge minority.

    The equity markets responded very favorably to a series of articles a couple of weeks ago, outlining the Volkswagen Group EV strategy.  One is less concerned about Volkswagen and maintaining its margins than Tesla entering a cost war to maintain market share.  While Tesla is the incumbent in the EV sector, it is not the incumbent in the automotive space and any attempts to meet the competition with a price war is foolhardy for Tesla.  

    Volkswagen in gaining immense economies of scale with its MEB component set.  Two Volkswagen vehicles, the ID.3 and ID.4, based on MEB are on sale today. Audi's Q4, based on the same MEB, will be introduced in the next few weeks and SEAT and Skoda have variants being released too.  Furthermore, Ford is licensing MEB for a commercial vehicle in the European market.  Meanwhile, Tesla has different manufacturing processes for its two most common products, the Model 3 and Model Y.
