Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Btw, after reading opinions and impression of rennlist members on several threads there about 991.2 I am very puzzled.

95% of rennlist members dislikes or even hates 991.2

Most of their assumptions about 991.2 are plain wrong. For example 991.2 will get bigger brakes, both standard and PCCBs (991.1 Turbo S size).

I also got info about PSE in 991.2 but, my lips remain sealed until...

So, Porsche made all wrong in 991.2 according to rennlist members and 991.2 Carrera GTS is a holy cow for them? Ok...

Btw, so called 991.2 Manual R will use chances are up to 98% already known Porsche parts mixed in new package. Think something like close relative of 991.1 GTS engine wise, GT4 gearbox wise and simplified 991.1 GT3 suspension without aerokit. Car will be basically made for rennlist members (and some manual fans here). Just, this is progress? From certain point of view it is I guess...

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I find it very difficult to dislike a new 911 model that I haven't seen or driven.  While I may not like the sound of the 991.2 engine, I am sure there will be upgrades from my 991.1 C4S that will be appealing.

The manual box will be a sales killer for a $120k car... Again what many around here want is a GT3 with no wing and rear seats... How hard is that... Unless way cheaper this new car makes little sense vs a GT3...

991.2 Manual R will be more or less Cayman GT4 twin track times wise and will be little bit slower the 991.2 CS PDK acceleration wise. Also, it will be more expensive then 991.2 CS PDK.

Will it sell? In USA for sure. In EU? I am not so sure.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Whew... I was starting to get worried there weren't enough variants of the 991 for sale!  :)

If the GT3 had a backseat that'd be awesome and the car I'd go for.

So, you think 6speed manual rather than 7speed manual?  The GT4 could certainly benefit from 7 performance ratios (re-geared from manual 991 where 7th is just for fuel economy).  Maybe shift quality is just not as good with 7spd...

You are right, but sometime those who were claiming "the sky is falling" were right too Smiley

If you look at the resale values for 911's from 1965 til now, you can see some definite places where the market considers the older model to be better than the next year after (1973, 1989, 1998, 2012 (GT3/RS/4.0), 2016???)

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

    It's not only at rennlist.
Here in Germany in the by far biggest Porsche forum (PFF), it's the same. Almost everyone dislikes the 991.2. A lot people ordered the 991.1 GTS because it's the last "real" Porsche.
But it's always the same, when the 991 was one the way, it seems that everyone ordered a 997 GTS because they think that they don't like the 991 and it will not be a real Porsche. In mean time not so many 997 GTS owners, but a lot 991 owners.....

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

So now the 911 looks more like a Cayman (front end, exhaust). Interesting. Maybe Porsche misunderstood those customers who were clamoring for a Cayman with 911-level power...

Kidding aside, I like the detailing. Still not thrilled with the rear grille treatment, but it will probably grow on me.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I also dislike the grill in the back. Too retro for my taste. I ordered a GTS cab, for a couple of reasons. Don't like turbos in a sports car (linearity, reduced rpms and the noise). So I'm not a candidate for the 991.2, now the 991R being talked about could  be interesting, but probably not enough to change from the GTS. Unless I if don't get used to and don't enjoy the PDK.

what precisely sound promising to you in this?

    peter

I think he is referring to that 8-cyl. 5.0 l Boxer(?) engine and to the hybrid versions of the next 911.

This weekend, I was on a short trip to Austria and there was a nice M4 Cab in our hotel. He drove off slowly and the car sounded very much like my wife's Macan Turbo without(!) PSE and when he fully accelerated, my son said that it clearly sounds worse than the Macan Turbo with PSE turned on. I couldn't agree more, what a disappointment. Funny enough, the M4 Cab sounded OK (deep growl) at very low rpm but when he fully accelerated, it sounded like a sound proof fart. Smiley Smiley The new 991.2 Carrera won't be much different. There is a growl in the lower rpm range, there is a louder noise in the mid and higher rev range and there is that vacuum cleaner sound in the higher rev range. Very generic, if you close your eyes, you could actually suspect any other car.

I heard the new M3/M4 on many occasions before, even from the inside with that loudspeaker amplification of engine sound but it disappoints over and over again. Why should the 991.2 facelift be much different?

I am a huge 911 Turbo fan but with the latest generation, Porsche kind of wrecked my opinion about this car. Maybe I want a different Turbo than others but for me, the 911 Turbo just isn't attractive anymore and with almost all 911 actually becoming Turbos, I doubt that this will help the 911 Turbo further. Yes, Porsche will make the next gen 911 Turbo more flashy and more special but in the end, the engines are basically the same. Smiley Huge disappointment.

Yes, I was referring to the 8-cylinder boxer, but this is an old rumour and it's always atractive to threw it in to spice up an article...Smiley then it's the possible "911 R" that sounds like a car "back to the roots". It's a car that many here would like to have.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Those will be the new Carrera S wheels or the SportDesign ones? I think the current SportDesign wheel should be replaced by one with better design... BTW, Porsche will include at last the SportClassic wheel in the lineup? They should do it

GT3 RS engine would be great! Except it just occurred to me that if this actually happens, it will likely be a limited edition collector's car that will cost more than GT3RS itself. It's not a car I would buy as I want something that goes and cost like a GT3, with rear seats. I want a daily driver, not a collector's item.

To be honest I know just that this car (or one of these cars) went yesterday out of the production. I know what engine is installed. I didn´t get any info about marketing and sales. I heard the name 911 R long time and it could (probably will) be a limited version. I suppose in the price range of Turbo or Turbo S.
