    NEW GT3

I am trying to decide between a new GT3 and keeping my 05 997s. I have the opportunity to buy a new GT3 at msrp today, in a color I like (black/black/ The problem is that my 997s is also black and has only 9500 miles.
I don't track it and obviously drive it sparingly, I don't know if I need the extra speed/power although can you ever get enough speed/power, or if I can ratioalize the expense. Plus I love the 997s and always thought I would keep it forever.
One consideration is I look back to 1974 when I had a new Carrera targa and had the opportunity to trade it (and didn't) for a new Carrera RS. The RS today is probably worth 4x what the Targa would be and I look back on this as a misteak. If I don't buy the GT3 today is history repeating itself?
My dealer will give me 65k for the 997s and I would pay 117k for the GT3. Is it worth the difference today? How about in 5 years? I just lost 30k on the 997s from new, am I starting this cycle all over again with the GT3? or will it be more of an investment?

    Re: NEW GT3

    GET IT!!!!

if you can afford the 52k diff, I would take the GT3 without an heartbeat if I were you. I have a 05 C2S (only 8k miiles). I had originally told my wife that the porsche cars keep their value (ok, I lied). Now, I'm thinking about trading in the car also..., but when I told my wife the trade-in value, she said I'm not getting another porsche. LOL

    Re: NEW GT3

I had the exact same dilemma, right down to color choice. Although, I think my GT3 is optioned a little more heavily. So far so good. It seems like the GT3's are holding up price wise. It is a much more special car. If $$ isn't a big deal then go for it.

    Re: NEW GT3

You said on your post that you will not track it, so I suggest that the GT3 will actually be inferior to your 997S as a daily driver. Straight line performance a GT3 is faster than 997S, but not much, especially for road use. Don't even think than any current 911 will be an investment as they are too mass produced.

    Re: NEW GT3

The GT3 isn't just about greater acceleration it is a much more organic driving package, it goes, sounds, involves, steers, brakes, handles & interacts on a higher level than the 997S. But it doesn't have rear seats & is slightly more raw on the back roads, so doesn't cruise as well.
I love my GT3 & use it every day, but if you love your 997S already & it is $52k to change keep the money in the bank & keep enjoying your current car! 997GT3 prices are firm at the moment but give it another year & things will move, so in 12-18months it will likely be cheaper for you to change, by then you may be bored of the 997S & really want a change so all dovetails together!

Of course with boys & their toys you could just say sod the logic & get the car now!

    Re: NEW GT3

Not a question in my mind what you should get. I had a 2006 C2S cab, that was chipped, lowered, supersprint exhaust, K/N airfilter, 19 in werks wheels. It was a nice car and I definitely enjoyed it. But after I got my GT3, it does not compare. The GT3 just feels powerful. Looks aggressive, and sounds terrific. It is well worth the difference to trade for it. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to get one. Good luck. Either way, you win.

    Re: NEW GT3

I have both a 997 GT3 and a C2S Cab. There is no comparison, the GT3 is much more involving and plain fun. The cab seems sloppy slow and boring in comparison. I hardly drive the cab except for the exceptional day with great weather. GT3 all the way with PCCB.

Only you can determine if it's worth the money.

    Re: NEW GT3

We have none left in Europe! Get it whilst you can

    Re: NEW GT3

If you can test drive the GT3, as I did today, you will have your answer.

You will care less about the money.

    Enjoy.

    Re: NEW GT3

I have an appointment to test drive it tomorrow. it just was unloaded from the transport today...If i have to drain the urine out of my socks after the test drive...it will be in my garage tomorrow night.

    ditto. Swapped for CTT 2008

    Re: NEW GT3

If you can afford it - get it. Don't look at it as an investment - no mass produced Porsches are, not even the RS IMHO.

My dealer gave me 57k + 3k tax credit (or 60k total) for my 2006 997. The msrp on the GT3 was $126k. My trade-in lost about 25k in depreciation over two years, about $1k/month. That's a lot. And I did hesitate. But after I saw and drove the GT3, I cared less about the depreciation. You only live once. And a car like this may come along only once in a lifetime.

    Re: NEW GT3

Get the GT3. It is one of those rare cars that are truly great.
