Well, not too surprising as there is a ton of power left unused there. There is a precedent for this too, as the 964 Turbo had 3.3L (before 1994) while the base car had 3.6L.
I wonder if the 997GT3 will also be 3.6L? There it seems hard to find much more power without adding displacement...

It's a fantastic engine, Pentium. I didn't mean to freak you out. There have been some issues with RMS oil leaks (which I'm sure are in the minority). These may be fixed with the 997...time will tell. Anyway, I don't think it's a major factor, and you wil LOVE your 911!

The problem with the 996 engine is that the engine halves and crankshaft cradle halves are joined together in midline. Any significant non-concentricity from these 4 joined pieces results in leak, no matter how many times you change the seal or redesign it . The 997 engine is of similar design - you hope they have solved it , since they couldn't over the 8 years of Boxster/996 build.
GT3/Turbo/GT2 engine is constructed differently and doesn't have this problem.

I vaguely recall someone (on this Board?) indicating that RMS leaks are less likely, but not unheard of, on GT3/GT2/TTS engine. True?

Thats true, its not unheard of just like is not unheard of on other makes and model cars, its just that its not frequent like on the carreras and boxsters were its a big issue. I have heard of RMS leaks on a couple of GT3's for example.
I have heard a rumor that they changed the block or something about the block on the 997 that fixes the problem, but its just a rumour. Porsche has spread rumors that they have finally fixed it on various ocations over these 7 years but were not true. If its not fixed on the 997, it won't take long till we know about it, just as soon a few k miles are put on the 997's.

And except seeking for oil leaks underneath a parked car, how else I should detect it ?
Should I expect a high oil consumption if I have a RMS leak ? My 997C2 being a new car, shouldn't be normal to use more oil than usual in the beginning ? If yes, how I will make the distinction between "it's normal because it's new" and "Stuttgart, we have a problem" ?
BTW: the car didn't arrived with a user manual !!! My dealer told me it will arrive later. So, for how long I should keep the car at 3.000 rpms ? 3.000 kms ?

Pentium,
The RMS leak is a very small leak so it will not affect oil consumption. The only way to detect it is to look for small coin sized oil drops under the engine. Sometimes you won't even the find oil drops, but you can see the oil on the underside of the engine were RMS is. Many people don't even notice it until they are told so when they bring it in for regular service.
But its not an emengency when it leaks, just check for oil drops from time to time on the garage floor, just like you check for tire wear and thats it, don't worry too much about detecting it inmediately, nothing bad will happen if you still drive the car with a RMS leak. I suppose the only thing that can happen if you don't get it fixed when it starts is that you are at increased risk of the oil getting into the clutch and flywheel the longuer its leaking, but that would be covered by the warraty too (they put new clutch and flywheel in since its easier than trying to clean them), and the oil getting in the tranny doesn't happen that often (though some people have detected the RMS after taking it to the dealer due top clutch slippagea and turned out it had an RMS leak).
