    Will anyone buy an Audi RS 4 here?

    I know this is a Porsche board but i just wanted to know if anyone will be looking at the new RS4. Is anyone thinking of trading in the 997 for one? Will anyone be buying one as a 2nd car. I know there is a lot of guys here who have M3's as well as the 997. Will any of you be thinking of trading in for it. Thoughts please...

    Wouldn't even be a consideration. I had an '01 M3 that I traded for the '05 997S. The M3 was a good vehicle, but the Porsche is "top shelf".Just my opinion, but Audi's, Saab's and Volvo's do nothing for me.

    I was (according to Audi UK supposedly!) the first person to put a deposit on one back in 2003.

    Was going to wait for the Avant, initially due September 2005, now due Summer 2006. I ditched it in favour of my C4S, due next Friday.

    Very different cars I know, but the rational for ditching it was;

    1) RS's are now not as rare/ exclusive as they once were, too many S Line looky-likeys
    2) Delivery is too far away
    3) New B8 platform will be radically different and improved , i.e. engine behind the front axle, this is due out next year
    4) It's not a Porsche

    RS4 looks like an amazing car, but things just added up against it.

    If you don't mind Tip (not what I wanted) the new S6 looks like a better bet, or even the new S8!

    The dealer said I could go to have a drive when they get one in, I'll let you know if I take them up on it!

    I had a look in the Audi showroom in Mayfair and was shocked by the plasticky feel of the interior. 'd never consider it. Why not an M5?

    No - not a fan of sedan based "sports cars" with injected M or in this case, "S/RS" genes

    No to the Audi, also had a M-3, great car, but imo doesn't compare to the 997S. The 997 has so much more personality. I have more fun driving 30 in my 911 than I did driving 130 in the M.

    I tried RS4 and it is IMO excellent car! Of course, as a 2nd car! New RS4 is almost as fast as 997S(x51) in straight line... Brakes are amazing and whole car is much more balanced then any previous sport Audi's. New power distribution(40/60) works very good but, RS4 is little bit nose heavy... Any way, as a 2nd, all weather car RS4 is hard to beat. Also new S6(V10-435hp) is very interesting as more comfortable alternative(standard 6speed TIP).

    Audi RS4 Avant - yes

    But of course we still have way too many phobias about station wagons here for that to ever happen. That would be a terrific stealth machine if you took the badges off it and had it in Dolphin Gray.

    I think i will stick with the 997s. It is an awesome car. The reason i posted this is a friend of mine has just sold his 996 turbo s and ordered the RS4 and just wanted to know what everyones thoughts were. Thanks for the replys guys!

    I have a hard time bringing myself to spend a ton of money on a juiced-up version of a rather entry-level pedestrian car.. I used to be into it, and I love a good sleeper, but I just can't reconcile it now that I've stepped into "997-land". It keeps me away from M3's, RS4's, C55's, etc... You can make a rocketship out of your mom's grocery-getter, but it's still your mom's grocery-getter somewhere in there.

    It's like giving a donkey a cocktail of tequilla and cocaine, and watching it run shoulder to shoulder with Thoroughbreds in the Kentucky Derby. Amusing and fun... even effective and amazing....But it still looks like a silly donkey running it's a$$ off (no pun intended) amongst a pack of thoroughbreds, regardless of whether it's winning the race..

    Maybe I'm making sense, or maybe not...

    What's the point? Totally different thing, isn't it?

    Audis are well engineered, but the configuration is not that of a sports car so there will always be compromises. As I said, I can't really see the point - unless you want a "sporty hatchback" rather than a "sports car" in the first place.

    Also I am now completely addicted to the feel of the engine in the rear and how it squats down when you accelerate - wonderful. A front engined car will never feel the same for me.

    I don't mind to have a RS4 Avant, practical, fast, understated... at least I would prefer it over the Cayenne for groceries.

    I test drove an RS4 last week. It is nice car, very sporty... but it is a sedan. After the test, I took my 997 Carrera and it felt as fast but gave much more sporty feeling.

    There is no substitute!

    if it was a 2 door coupe, I would trade the M3 in for it in a blink.

    since it's a 4 door, and I associate 4 doors w/ family and friends, both things that I hate, I will not be getting the RS4.

    I was about to plunk down a deposit on one and trade my S4 in for it. We don't get a few of the goodies that they do in Europe though like the awesome seats and steering wheel. In the end, I decided to keep the S4 and bought a 997S instead of the RS4. It was a great decision!

    Wife question on RS4

    She picked up one of the many car magazines littering the house and read a short piece in it about the RS4.

    "Hey why not get rid of the allroad, the Mazda 3, cancel your 997 C2S Cab order and just get an RS4 Cab and an RS4 Avant???"

    Kind of appealing on paper...
