    Just joined the 987 Club!

     G'day all!

I just picked up my new Porsche 987 S (manual) a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely love it.

It is not overly optioned, 19" alloys, Sports Seats, Carbon bits inside and a few other goodies.

It sounds great, drives great but I have found the gears a tad stiff, especially putting it into reverse. My wife is no stranger to manual cars and has stalled it a couple of times despite the hill hold it started rolling back in peak traffic in New South Head Road - a bit hilly that road - whoopsSmiley

I am still getting to grips with the PCM - very good so far.

Does anyone have the sports exhaust? Is it worth it? Also, the sports shift, is it stiffer?

    Appreciate your advice.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

I had sport exhaust on my 986 Boxster S and I appreciated the difference, especially with the top down. Congrats on the new car.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Congrats and welcome to RT ! you'll find its nice here

Also, share the love post some pics

    Welcome to RT +2

Your car sounds very nice from the options list.

    I vote Pics or Ban

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Welcome to RT and congrats on the new car

Yes, sports exhaust is great - especially with a convertible - plus the short shifter is MUCH better

Let's see some pics of your 987S by some of Sydney's landmarks

Thanks guys! I will take some snaps soon!

I will get a short shift from the UK or US - very expensive here for anything with Porsche on it!

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

    Congratulations! Excellent choice of car!

Short shift and sports exhaust are great options which will make a difference.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Welcome to Rennteam and congratulations on the Boxster!    I love mine!

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Did about 200km this weekend and am loving the Boxster more and more!

My last cars included a 996, 997, Aston Martin V8 Vantage (sold it a few monhs ago) to name a few, I wanted a Boxster since I saw the concept but always went for the 911's for the extra space. The AMV8 worked out fine with just two seats so I thought I would try the 987.

Absolutely love it - here in Sydney, it's not cheap though. Cost AUD 155,000 with the options. Equates to a lot British Pounds!

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Congrats - they are great cars

I just switched a 987.1 with no PSE or short-shift for a 987.2 with both.  Love them - they make a big difference to the car.

Hi Dave, I saw your snaps very nice!

Did you get the sports seats too?

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Thanks - yes, I got the sport bucket seats, which are also superb.  I went for a bit of blast in the mountains yesterday - they hold you in very nicely and allow you to feel a lot of feedback.  Bit of a pain to get in and out of though - easier with the roof down..  I also got to try the LSD a bit - definitely more planted in the tight corners and allows you to get the power down.. great stuff

congrats! i do miss my old boxster still...

did u consider the Boxster Spyder?  its perfect if its your second car.

how does the power of the Vantage compare to the 987S??

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Congrats... I went back to the Boxster after my Vantage - got a Spyder this time - different cars, and loved the Vantage, but do prefer how connected you feel in the Porsche.

Short shift makes a hell of a difference, not stiff but firm.. if that makes sense, and much more direct.

Sports exhaust sounds great - tho to be honest I also like the normal sound. Car sounds much deeper, not a sound you immediately expect from the flat-6

Probably out in Sydney on business in the not to distant future, so if you need some bits brining over... ;) (tho might stuggle to get the PSE in the case!)

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Cool - I went from the 997 to the Vantage and now Boxster. Very happy with it.

Drop me a line when you come down under! I will be in Stuttgart, Paris, London and Lyon during June so will probably get a few goodies then.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Congratulaions Porsche987 - the Boxster is a fantastic car. Although we now drive a Cayman, we really miss our beloved cobalt Boxster S - I don't think we will ever have the same love affair with the Cayman that we had with the Boxster.......Smiley

Definitely - we retrofitted it to ours and it is so much more precise than the standard shift. The aluminium 1 gear knob also is a big tactile improvement. Smiley

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

G'day all, I might order the short shifter from LA - reasonable and the Aussie Dollar stronger than the US makes it an even better than usual buy.

Anything else you recommend I get thrown in to the UPS box?

I was thinking about the wheel spacers...

    Recommendations appreciated.

PS I got some Zymol from LA recently too. Will give that a whirl next week.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

I've got 5mm factory spacers on mine, and like the look - they fill out the arches a bit better.  If looks are your thing, then they're a nice and cheapish addition..

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

Spacers are a nice addition. They make a difference visually. Dynamically I cannot tell.

You have to buy the longer wheel bolts too, if you install the spacers.

A nice set of coloured wheel hubs would also fit into the UPS box.

Re: Just joined the 987 Club!

..maybe some shiny and light titanium wheel bolts to go with the spacers

You might want to try Suncoast Porsche in Florida, that's where I  got my aluminium gear lever & handbrake from, saved a small fortune on UK price and they give very good service.
