I get excited about small things

Like I've only just realised that the cup holders' loop expands if you pull it (for bigger cups), that it automatically shrinks if you forcefully push the holder back in again, and.... that you can close the centre flap bit with the stirrup...sorry, cupholders () still extended, so it looks nice and tidy.

I think a new employee must have started at Porsche, and all they would let him design was the cup holders...

"Cup holders? CUP HOLDERS?... I'll show then ****ing cup holders!"

Re: I get excited about small things

Have you discovered that when extended those cup holders are spot on exactly the right size for a PDA?

You're right! That's made my day. And it's not even nine o'clock yet.

That's a real incentive to get a Tom-Tom bluetooth kit now. Is v5 out yet?

Re: I get excited about small things

Can you play MP3's on it?

Thats my discovery long time ago

    web page

Re: I get excited about small things

I didn't steal your idea honest! I think that man with the wabbit had something to do with it at the Great Rennteam South of England Meet. I couldn't mention it then because wtsnet was only an associate member at the time and hadn't undergone the Initiation Ceremony.

Re: I get excited about small things

V5 wasn't out when I looked a couple of weeks ago. Expansys are doing a good deal on white box Socket Bluetooth GPS receivers, so I bought one of those and loaded Navigator V3 on my iPAQ, downloaded CheckPOInt and the camera databases from PocketGPSworld so now I'm in business! They even have a POI file with all the Optimax stations! And the iPAQ does fit very nicely in the cup holders.

Re: I get excited about small things

Of course you can play MP3s on it - and with 1GB SD or CF cards down to around Pounds50 for 16 hours of music thats starting to look interesting. Just got to figure out how to connect the audio out of the iPAQ into the car system.

Re: I get excited about small things

perhaps the most overengineered cupholder ever.

Great info. I'll look into it. Latest FAQ on the Tom-Tom site implies that v5 is due very very soon. I'm interested in the new GPS unit, specifically it's reception and battery life. Any views? I didn't know you could use alternative GPS units. Also I don't know if the Buy v3 and upgrade to v5 path is going to be more expensive than waiting for v5. I can always use a map for a few weeks! The optimax station POI would be damned handy though.

I don't have any other units to do a side by side comparison but the Socket unit (which is a badged Emtac unit) seems pretty competitive in most of the reviews. Acquisition time in normal in-car conditions seems to be around 60 to 90 seconds. Battery life is fine - manual claims 9 hours and I would not doubt this. It comes with a cigarette lighter adaptor including a Y adaptor so you can charge both the GPS and iPAQ in-car.

The GPS applet supplied with Navigator has a pull down for about 40 types of GPS receiver, so you should be able to hook up most units.

Re: I get excited about small things

Guys...you don't even know how well engineered those cup holders are: have you ever tried to use them on the track? Try it...your bottle will swing with gravity in twists and turns and I assure you that it won't fall off. Now that's what I call great engineering for a sports car.

Hey, don't take the wabbit in vain - and we recognised the Rennteam contribution when we shared the knowledge...
